That's just wrong!

Ok as a rule of thumb, do not glaze and then top it with a sealant, the sealant will not bond. There are a few synthetic glazes that sealants can bond over, however oil glazes like RMG should not be used under a sealant.

My personal recomendation would be to get your prep perfect, clay, swirl removal, polishing etc... Then go to p21s paintwork cleanser>rmg> and any of these waxes: Souveran, zymol carbon, concours, or any of the EGZ, souveram, cg5050 or pete's 53, victoria wax or even CMW.

The looks IMO really come from the glaze. I am never as happy with the results on dark cars when I dont use RMG.

I did some light polishing with Meguiars #83, then Mother's Sealer and Glaze, Z5, S100, Z2Pro.

Mother's sealer and glaze is not a synthetic sealant, If you recall meguiars #7 used to be called "sealer and re-sealer" while its basically just oil.

The only thing that bonded to your paint in that lineup is the s100. The z2 will not bond over the oils in mothers sealer and glaze, and the z2 will also not bond over the s100 so what youre looking at is basically selaer and glaze topped with s100.

The key to making black look it's best is in the prep work, not the wax.

Hand polishing is possible but difficult. I tried on my car and got nowhere. I now use a Porter Cable 7336SP polisher with excellent results. For a black daily-driver, machine polishing is the only way to go.

As far as polishes go, Menzerna products have the reputation for giving the best finish.

Best advice for a black car...(from personal experience.)

I've always done all my polishing my hand.

2-3 times per year I use 3M Swirl Mark Remover, then Zaino Z2 (times 2).

I maintain with Z6 or Meg's NTX Detailer....

.

You understand 3M SMR is purely fillers and oils, correct?

Yup. They wont bond. I just tried them on for show purposes.

Don't use the turtle wax shampoo if you plan on adding another coat of Zaino anytime soon. Depending of whats in that stuff, you may affect the ability of any future layers of Zaino to bond with the paint. If you do plan on adding another layer then I'd either do a dawn wash or spray the car down with a citrus degreaser (similar to P21s total auto wash) and then wash with Z7 just to be safe.

I really, really like RMG on black cars. Ever since I used it on a client's 2007 black camry I just can't keep my mouth shut about it. I think I want to try it out on a light color soon, maybe it will even make that look wet!

has anyone topped thier wolfgang dgps with collinite 476s for a black car, to add longevity to the wolfgang?

If the black is solid, I love the combo of Ultra gloss superpolish and Prima Amigo

Also love to use permagard Reactive and Glare Zero - pro polish on solid blacks to bury some or all of the orange peel and give a wet glass lustre

It all depends on what the individual wants with their car

I like to have my paint look like water, where you cannot see where the paint is, all you see is wet colour and a finish that looks as deep as a swimming pool
