This 5-Series BMW was brought to me for the same treatment as the 2 other G35’s I posted up previously. This car has close to 100K miles on the odometer and received a complete repaint by the same bodyshop that painted the other two cars. It was my job to bring the paint back to absolute perfection after it had been wetsanded by them. The goal was to make the paint look better than it did when it rolled out of the factory and ensure that there was no orange peel present whatsoever.
Unfortunately, I had to detail this one all by myself because Ryan was working on a Ford GT performing a concours-level detail. This was the only car I booked for the week because I knew it was going to take quite a while working without the help of Ryan. The other two wetsand jobs took about 40 hours each to correct, so I was expecting about the same for this car.
I had a bit of trouble on the other cars because the clearcoat had hardened extremely fast. This particular brand of paint must be refinished immediately after it is painted or else the paint is significantly harder to work with. My goal was to do as much of the heavy compounding as possible the first couple of days so that I would not have to do any extra work for no reason.
The car was pretty dirty, both inside & out and looked awful when it arrived at the shop.
This is what it looked like before…
