Need Your Good Thoughts and Prayers

Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers. It really helps to lift my spirits, guys..........it's amazing that we get to know and can help each other, even in these small ways though the magic of information technology, isn't it?

Appreciate you caring enough to tell me. Thanks so much.

See ya. :wavey

I am happy for all of the above posts. This forum is loaded with classy people, and I am so glad to see the outpouring of support.

All of the religious sentiments expressed ring true. I can't go better than that.

So, I will add a Rolling Stones line.

"Well, we all need someone we can lean on. And if you want it, well you can lean on me."

Best Wishes!

Bob, my wife is a unit director in the Thoracic Surgery division at UPMC here in Pittsburgh. She's pretty much seen it all and she SWEARS that a patient's attitude is one of the biggest contributing factors to their continued health.

YOU'LL GET THROUGH THIS!!!.....just believe it and don't let the anxiety eat you up.

Good luck and carry my best wishes with you.

Well said!!!!!

Thank you, sir.

By the way, Bob, one of the best (if not THE best) Thoracic units in the country is here at UPMC.

If you are ever unhappy with the quality of care you're receiving and feel the need to look elsewhere, give a look here.

My wife's very well connected with the Head of the Division (having worked closely with him for some years), as well as many of the other doctors; I'm sure she could do something to help you.

God forbid, if that scenario should ever play out, or you just want someone to talk to who understands the situation from the inside, don't hesitate to contact me and we'll see what we can do for you.

All,

I wasn't sure where to post this so pardon my post if it starts in the wrong place.

First, the best of holidays to you all and your families. I hope you all got what you wanted under the tree and that you will also enjoy a very Happy New Year in 2010.

We all have had bad things occur to us and I'm sure I am not alone in this category around the holidays. Actually, that's how I happened upon Autopia originally and all the information about car care.

I have been going through some serious medical issues the past year and a half, all causing huge amounts of anxiety, fear and of course the physical side effects & aspects associated w/recovery. Not to bleed all over the keyboard, but my situation included major (really major) abdominal surgery, post-operative radiation/chemo treatments and then scans & tests every 2-3 mos. After these past 18 mos., I've come up the curve and begun to feel like "myself" again. Have had a yr. of really great test results. My latest scan in mid-December showed a little "something" different and I need to have another test in a week or so, where they look closer at it endoscopically & take a sample to test.....so, back on the anxiety/dread/fear merry-go-round again. It scares me so and I pray that I will be OK so I can just "be" and live a long, happy life in peace. It seems so difficult and debilitating and I know some of you can relate to this.

Since becoming part of the forum, I've been able to learn a lot and get connected with some good people, not only those who are experts in detailing, but just nice acquaintances and good buds through the wizardry of information technology. (I also now have a new addiction to detailing products - with a 6ft. cabinet full of Optimum, DP, Pinnacle, Lake Country, Porter Cable, etc.. and about a "zillion" microfiber towels.)

That's why I feel comfortable that I can reach out to you now. If you can find it in yourself, have a good thought or say a prayer that all will be OK with me in this trying time, that this is just something that amounts to nothing and that I AM disease free & healthy.

Update: Jan. 11, 2010 - After juggling schedules & ensuring that I have someone with me for the test (especially to get me home after anesthesia ) it's now scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 12th. Thanks again to all who have sent their best & prayers to me. Set the good thought-GPS for zip 14642 next week and keep them beaming in that direction. Thanks an awful lot guys. It means a lot for you to care.

Hope all of you have had a great holiday and will be well & successful in the new year. 2010 WILL be a very good year for all of us!! The best!

See ya.

.....and best regards,

Bob

Hey, Guys,

Thanks for the additional kind words and prayers. It means a lot to hear them coming from you guys here on the forum.

Last week was a bit trying as you might have imagined from my original post. Well, I had the endoscopic test, unfortunately, it seems I didn't follow the eating instructions correctly for the prior day, given the way my digestive system works and the doctor couldn't complete the test. You'd think with three degrees I should be able to follow along (although, they were ambiguous and probably needed to be some what different for me, specifically).

He and I discussed that possibility before he tried, but because some food remained in my stomach he had to stop the process before completion, to be safe. It's now rescheduled for Jan. 26th @ 1PM EST....& they'll use an anesthesiologist to put me under this time. (For those of you who have had the 'fortunate" :) experience of say, one of these or a colonoscopy, this anesthesia will be less like that (semi-under, no memory of the events) and more like what you have with an operation (out). What fun.....

Also had another scan like I have had every two-three months last Friday, so by the end of that I was whipped and fried for the rest of Friday and into Saturday. Popped out other side on Sunday with the sun and felt pretty good. And I feel fine right now. Just getting real anxious again about doing the thing all over again, etc., etc. next week and still hoping & praying that I AM healthy and disease FREE!

I appreciate you folks checkin' in........nice to know that your prayers and thoughts are still w/me. I still need them, so next Tuesday, aim all that good energy at zip 14642 from me at 1PM!! OK?? :)

In the mean time, the temp. has gone up some into the high 30's/low-40's and sun is expected for the next 2-3 days. We'll take that in this neck of the woods. May be an opportunity to get the 'vette out on the dry pavement for a bit of a ride and at least some more real vitamin D! (Not sure I'm going to wash any of them, although I have plenty of ONR to get the job done!) Plus, there's always many more hours of the Barrett-Jackson Collector Car auction from Arizona to watch in a pinch!! :D

Best to you all and thanks again for caring. Hope the weather is nice for you too and some fun to be had. And for you guys in S. Cal. or the Southwest, I hope it stops raining on you, too. Looked like small gales at the auto auction when they showed it on live TV from AZ.

Take care.

See ya. :wavey

I'm sending you prayers from up North, so you're well surrounded by good wishes.:ca

I'm a nurse and I just said this to a friend the other day about his father's cancer and about keeping all thought's you have positive, just as others on this site are telling you. You will be fine, and there are a few other things you can do to help yourself...there is a saying...'if you're sitting in a small boat in the middle of the ocean in a big storm, say a prayer to god, then get rowing!'

Cancer is huge on my mother's side (grandmother, mother, aunts, cousins), and so we had decided to fight what is clearly genetic and coming for us too. We have done a ton of research into additional ways to fight cancer, and since then my mother has beat it twice, and my father (first on that side) just beat it as well. My girlfriend who had bladder cancer (one of the worst due to extremely high recurrence) has been cancer free 5 years...she follows this advice to a "T"...her physician cannot believe her recovery and even asked her what she does. It's too much info for this space here, but if you would like, I can send you all the info...it's only an adjunct to your existing medical treatment, and replaces none of it...you need both to beat cancer. Some of the advice is herbs/vitamins, and some of it is lifestyle changes (the insulin influence and also the acidity influence on cancer and so what and how to eat properly)...all meant to boost your immune sytem and help you fight cancer and make it easier to undergo any additional chemo with less of the side effects.

Right now diet for you has to be #1 priority...You need to regulate blood glucose levels to starve any cancer cells (cancer cells use glucose in a different way)...so stop eating anything that's high on the glycemic index, stop drinking regular juices (don't drink your fruits) and don't drink milk (hormonal effects with all dairy products). Eat lots of natural fruits and vegetables and they're better if they are raw, and do not consume junk food, baked goodies, regular or diet pop...no chemicals or canned/processed food...just everything fresh if you can. Buy organic, and wash foods you can in natural fruit and veggie washes to remove chemicals/pesticides and bacteria. Eat smaller amounts more frequently throughout the day due to high insulin released (insulin spikes damage the body and causes the body stress, and glucose feeds the cancer cell)...no more full course meals (remember also foods low in the glycemic index)...human's are meant to graze not eat huge meals...no huge changes to human genes since the beginning of time. No more starches such as bread and cereals (unless it's boiled porridge), and slow down on some of the other starches such as potatoes/rice...starches (longer sugar chains) have higher amounts of acrylamide in them if the starch (that is low in protein such as a potato) is baked, toasted or fried...boiling is the only way to eat these kinds of starches (acrylamide is formed in higher cooking temps over the boiling point). One piece of toast has 400 times the WHO recommendations for one day's consumption...acrylamide causes and promotes cancer...122% increase in ovarian cancer with woman who ate higher levels of acrylamide in foods. Any wheat item may also contain pesticides, so stay away from them for this additional reason. Eat low fat meats (turkey) and fish (anything with scales)...eat less of the large fish such as tuna (carry higher amounts of metals and toxins) as they consume other fish...do not eat bottom feeders (catfish, etc). Slow down on what we call "white death" (sugar, flour, salt). Drink tons of pure water...if you can, install a reverse osmosis system. Ok, I got going here, but there is so much more to tell, but at least that will get you started...

Also say a prayer for me too...recently found a growth in my puppy's groin (she is 14 years old). She's my little baby and she keeps me sane...her surgery has just been scheduled for Feb 3rd.

Acrylamide and Proposition 65

Acrylamide is a carcinogen, producing tumors at multiple sites in rats and mice. Acrylamide has been listed under Proposition 65 since January 1, 1990. The general public is exposed primarily through certain foods that have been cooked at high-temperature, and through cigarette smoke. Plant based foods that are rich in carbohydrates and low in protein can form acrylamide when they are cooked at high temperature.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

These kinds of agencies don't know what to do about the acrylamide problem. Acrylamide is a chemical used in making grout, etc, and was put on the list because of it's high cancer causing properties to workers handling the chemical. Then in 2002, in Sweden, they did studies and found that acrylamide was actually produced in high amounts when cooking and processing certain foods at high temperatures...studies worldwide all prove the same. Problem is that government agencies do not know how to warn the public about the dangers, and how do they backtrack when cereals, breads, etc, are encouraged by government (Pyramid/Canada food guide), and the world is run by Wendy's and Mcdonalds? There is currently huge discussions worldwide surrounding the acrylamide connection to cancer and the duty to warn the public...they are leaning to try not to have to warn the public, as it's the 'public's choice to cook food' in certain ways, as the food itself does not contain acrylamide, and just contains the substances to make it when cooked....I find that fascinating on how they can twist things to their own agenda.

Coryl/Jaidedeye - thanks for you kind words, prayers and advice. Hearing from others, whether they are/or have been exposed to this stuff.....or just want to get a good thought out to you........is gratifying and makes you feel that you're not really alone. Instills more confidence in dealing with the concerns & fears, whatever they may be. Like knowing somebody out there has your back......even though it's via the ether for the moment.

And yes, Coryl, if you can point me to information that might be pertinent to helping the situation with non-medical processes, could you PM me with the sources and info. that might be pertinent for me? It would be worth a look for sure. Thx. in advance for that extra effort.

Hope things continue well for all of you, because 2010 will be the BEST ever year for ALL of us! My mantra - I AM healthy and FREE of disease!!

BTW - where in CA are you from. Eastern Provinces or Western? Not too far from Ontario of course...and naturally, know all the words to both the Canadian and American National Anthems!! :)

See ya guys. :wavey

........and best regards,

Bob

I'm in Ottawa, so not too far from you. Difficult to pm you all the info, as there is a cap on the amounts I can send.

I will pm the herbal information to you, and write additionals here on the site here incase someone else knows someone who is going through this type of scenario, then they can also benefit. If anyone else wants the additional info on the herbs, etc, then let me know and I'll pm that information to them too.

I'm going to give you what to look up, so it doesn't have to be spelled out here completely.

As mentioned, diet has to be #1 for you, at least for the next 3-5 years...it's believed that 80% of all illness is created by diet, and the other 20% is genetic...heaven help those of us who have the genetic predisposition and then follow a bad diet. Understand that food is just a means to fuel your body so you can live life...people nowadays believe that living life is all about food. Try to think of eating healthy as a way to enhance your life, and not as depravation of life. Taking control of things to assist you in your wellness will also boost your immune sytem when you are battling any health concerns. Studies where people feel that they are in control of the situation, fare so much better when confronted with any issue. Keep stress out of your life, and stay in control, and on the days where you feel you cannot just reach out to all support areas available...joining cancer surviver groups is a must. I'm going to give you the areas where you need to research, so that way you can feel you are in control of your life.

Research the glycemic index, and get a copy of what foods are recommended, and which ones are not. IE, watermellon is higher on the glycemic index than other kinds of fruits, so eat that less often, or at times when the other foods you are eating at the time have a lower glycemic load. Remember, the goal here is to keep blood glucose levels stable without having any spikes in glucose and insulin. You can also use diabetic diets if that is easier, and do "carbohydrate" counting, which also uses the glycemic index. Only thing with the diabetic diets is to make sure you don't consume the chemicals from the diet products (pop, gum, etc)...no aspertame, etc. Eat smaller amounts more often for the same reason.

Research food items that create an alkaline body environment...cancer thrives in an acidic environment, yet your own cells needed to fight disease do not. Health food stores, and the internet have lots of info about these types of foods, and will even list them. Reasearch antioxidants...you need lots of them. And do not eat raw fish/sushi, unless you have been doing that for years...otherwise you will not have the built up resistance to deal with the parasites in raw fish. Remember, if you have to cook most items, boil or steam if it's an item that creates acrylamide.

Research acrylamide and which foods create it when cooked at high temps. Watch out for toasted snacks, including nuts...high acrylamide production with toasted almonds....nuts need to be raw and preferably salt free. Do not use the microwave to cook anything...my friend's friend, did the Canadian research on microwaves and the chemical changes to foods. Neither of them own a microwave.

No drugs/alcohol..red wine, ok, and if necessary, organic beer. Stay away from anyone who is ill...wash hands frequently, and don't put your hands on any area of your face....no eating, no picking your nose or taking sleep out of your eyes unless you wash first...lol. I'm sure I don't need to tell you about smoking and also staying away from anyone who is. Do not use chemicals when cleaning or when doing yard work....use gloves when using any cleaning solution, including washing the dishes...see below.

Go to the health food stores and buy non-chemical deoderants...best is the salt rocks and they last forever, are very cheap, and work amazing. Use chemical free shampoo ( sodium lauryl, and DEA, free). Use natural bar soaps. You also need to have a toothpaste that is free of those same chemicals (foaming agents)...sodium Lauryl sulfate is carcinogenic, and is also on government lists of cancer promoters/toxic agents...applied topically to animals it creates tumours (read the research), yet it is in all things to create that foaming effects of, toothpastes (rapid absoption from mucous membranes in the mouth), shampoos, body washes. Research the contents in anything you eat or apply to your body, and learn to read labels...if you can't pronounce it, or have never heard of it, don't use it...lol.

Naturally (if possible), treat anything such as indigestion, constipation, headaches, etc. Do not drink prune juice or use any canned products. High heat in processing these items creates acrylamide...now you see why rates of cancer are skyrocketing? Stay away from plastic containers (or buying food in them) and plastic wraps, and especially if heating items...and you're not going to use the microwave anyways, right? Use glass or stainless steel...no aluminum of any type...not even pots or foil. Keep your bowel clean...lots of water and natural fruits to keep regular and prevent toxin build up.

Start drinking tea (green), or red (rooibos), and the best is actually white tea (expensive) but it's the best for antioxidents...antioxidants remove free radicals that damage cells in your body....free radicals damage cells which create cancers. No coffee (or as little as possible)...sorry...roasting of the beans creates...(take a guess).

Start excersizing (walking is best), and do weights...take a walk after meals unless you have cardiac issues...walking after eating helps remove glucose from the blood stream and decreases your body's need to produce more insulin to combat the glucose.

Watch tons of comedies...keep laughing to boost endorphines which boost the immune system. It was suggested earlier to help others...very true...anything which makes you feel good about yourself (and gets you out of the "sick role" of self focus), will keep your mood better, and assist your immune system too. Pet your cat or dog...boosts both yours and also the pet's endorphines.

Go to the health food store and get a good multivitamin formula...make sure it contains good doses of Vitamin C, complex B, zinc, selenium, and the big one to protect against cancer is vit D...get some sunlight daily to produce natural vit D. Research for your size/weight how much vitamin D is recommended for you, and take the maximum of that...what's on the bottle is a general everyday average for "most" people. Calcium is needed in higher does to neutralize acidity in the body...so check out your specific amounts needed additionally (google: cancer, calcium and acidity).

I'm doing this all by memory, so I'll find my information in the archives and send what I've forgotten here. I'll also send you the list of herbs.

Do as much of these things as you can, and if nothing else, remember the acrylamide stuff I've been harping on. You will beat this!:bat

Take care,

Corinne

Holly crap...didn't realise the post was so long until it posted. Anyways, hopefully people read some of it, as someday 50% of us will need the info to assist either us or a loved one, or in what we can do to prevent it...we have to look after ourselves just as we look after the cars.:D
