Lets not make this a flamed thread....now i agree comletely with bigboyhf, blackfire looks awesome when applied right away, best shine i have seen. Now the slickness definately diminishes and the shine is diminished slightly. Why? Anyones guess....so heres mine. Terry said BF is a combination of a bunch of specialized polymers, one for shine, one slickness, one strong bonding protection. Im guessing that while the protection polymers are very durable, the shine and slickness ones just seem to fade away rather quickly.

I took a close look today and to me, the shine is still very reflective and deep. It has slightly diminished since the initial application. The paint is not slick at all but it is very smooth. The water is definitely still beading/sheeting.

Since I usually wax every few weeks, durability is not an issue for me. Thats the main reason why I haven't tried other sealants like Z or Klasse. I can get the same shine with Blitz but obviously

it doesn't last as long.

When I applied BF I also appled Meguires #20 and #26 the same day to another car and it is still very slick and still has a great shine.

So many waxes..so little time!!:D

Brad, that was some good info that Terry gave you. Thanks. As for the slickness issue, I really don't care too much about slickness. If I want "slickness" just use some quick detailer every few days or so. That's a non-issue really. Now the shine factor is a different story. If a product (a synthetic) loses its shine rather quickly, then that is most certainly a liability for a quality sealant. Fortunately, however, most reports seem to indicate that it doesn't lose shine too quickly. Laters

I tried Blackfire on a Dawned fender. It was all the weather and time allowed me to do. Blackfire applied and came off almost as easy as Blitz. The deep shimmering shine was amazing on my black car. I decided to wash the fender with Gold Class after applying it as a test. The Blackfire is not too slick but definitely very smooth or soft to the touch as someone said in another thread. If it were slick it would probably cause the water to bead like silicone oils or waxes do, instead the water just runs off. I applied a second coat and things only got better. It goes on and off so easily you could do ten coats a day. A little goes a long way like Klasse. I don't care if Blackfire loses its slickness. The shine is amazing.

My theory on BF:

The slickness is mainly generated by the surface prep and polish. The protectant applied to the polished surface is smooth and slick.

The protectant, even in thin coats, is somewhat thicker and softer than say Zaino. The surface of the protectant layer becomes contaminated over time even though the protection and shine remains. Probably even some of the protectant is removed with the embedded contaminants when washing.

p.s. IMO it is still one heck of a good product!

It really is one heck of a product. I got to inspect the car closer today and the shine is still there, diminshed a little, but definately holding up better than a wax. Slickness, use a QD. We all are willing to spend the time to, we do allready. As long as the protection doesnt wear out I'm fine. Plus you guys are forgertting that polyers not only last longer but are much stronger, against hear and contaminants. So while you can wax every month, it sill wont have the protection of a polymer.

I pretty much agree with you on all accounts. Slickness is not something that I really must have in a synthetic product. Shine and depth are much more important to me as you can always get this "slickness" with a quick detailer. Laters

Don, waxman, I agree with both of you, but what about Terry's statement that if we want to "maintain that elusive sparkle" we should keep the car garaged or under a car cover as much as possible? Also, a few Autopians have said that the BF glossiness is down after a few washes and the protectant seems to attract a lot of dust? I don't have any of these problems with Klasse or Zaino, even if the car is outside or driven a lot. They both 'maintain that elusive sparkle' even when put under heavy driving and bad weather conditions.

Slickness may not be an important issue, but i for some reason take slickness and the ability to repel dust as very closely related. BF shine is still there after several washes, however since the slickness is gone, my car kept "attracting" dust. The dust also felt that it was clinging onto the car rather than just resting on top of it.

BF's initial shine is supurb. So, i still have a good amount of faith in this product. I want to experiment with it and try to get the best results.

when i had used klasse it's ability to retain slickness and shine was excellent. I never really had any problems with the klasse system other the ksg is a PITA to remove.

When i figure things out with my car i'm gonna be doing experiments with combining layers of BF and Klasse.

Has anyone else tried doing a Dawn wash as the step right before applying the Blackfire protectant instead or polishing. Maybe the Blackfire protectant doesn't bond as well as other products when applying right after polishing. A lot of polishes contain oils and fillers, probably including the Blackfire polish.
