I just bought a bottle of UPP and when i apply it i can barely see it on my paint. Its silver but i still cant hardly see any of it. It seems like i have to use a large amount in a small area to see it on the paint. Is it like this on everyones paint? How do you guys apply it and know if your covering all your paint?

In some cases more isn't always better. Are you applying by hand or machine? Does the finish feel smooth after you remove the residue? If it's nice and smooth, it's on there and if you really want to make sure you have 100% coverage, wait 24 hours and then apply a second thin coat.

I have a white car and I know just what you mean. That's just how it is on light colors, with any product. It's hard to get a thin layer on light colors because it looks as though there isn't even anything there.

At certain angles you can often see if there is a thin layer of product on your paint. Move around and look at different angles to your light source, and you should be able to see the product on the paint.

This isn't the first time I've heard that. Just put two coats to make sure you have good coverage.

I have a white Navigator and that's been the hardest thing to know. Once you do it a few times, you kind of get the touch and get the feel for how much to put on. Like others have said, go with a second coat and that should ensure adequate coverage.:)

Whenever I use UPP or KSG (on silver) I try to apply it so thin that I can't see it. To ensure adequate coverage I work very methodically and somewhat slowly. It takes *far* less product than you'd imagine to provide full coverage and protection. Six layers of KSG applied this way last me well over a year on a daily driver (still beading, just starting to sheet, you can still easily feel the KSG on the surface). I reapply my UPP whenever it starts to lose slickness, but I still get plenty of protection from very thin layers of that product also.

I go by feel when applying. The areas you've covered will be slicker than those you haven't. When buffing it off, I fog the surface with my breath. The condensation shows the product and also makes removal a bit easier. The small amount of water vapor has never, in my experience, compromised my sealants in any way.

Should UPP be topped with either P21S or Pinnacle Signature (metallic) or just layered multiple times?

How about Poorboys EX-P? Should that be topped with carnauba or just layered?

Thanks!

You'll get varying opinions on this. I don't top it on my silver Audi.

I have a athracite metallic paint (gray) in great condition 2004. I just prepped the car yesterday with a wash, polish with AIO and then put on a coat of UPP. I had already clayed the car last month. I must say that I love the finish. Really shiny. I don't know if I should top it or add a few more layers of UPP.

Anyone else with an opinion?

That's the beauty of UPP - it's easy to get it on nice and thin. I too can barely see it on my dark silver paint - but if I change my viewing angle slightly I can always see the thin smear of product on the surface so I don't really find it too much of a problem.

FWIW... anyone thinking of doing multiple layers of UPP, I personally couldn't see any noticable difference between 2 and 3 layers. I'd recommend saving your product and sticking with just the 2 layers.

I also wouldn't personally top it with anything, but that's just me - although alot of people on here do so with Paste Glaz (now discontinued).

Like anything, deciding to top it or not is purely personal preference. I personally think topping UPP enhances the appearance of the paint. The difference may be slight and not everyone will see it (though I bet most Autopians would if they could see the paint before).

Paste Glaz and Souveran are excellent toppers for UPP because they retain the slickness of UPP (especially Souveran).

UPP looks great by itself or with a carnauba topper. I love how Paste Glaz looks over it, but I didn't like how #16 looked over UPP. #16 also took some of the slickness away, while Paste Glaz did not.
