some scratches too much for PC?

so my truck was in my friends shop today so i had his jimmy to drive around. it was covered in tree sap/pollen, so i decided to give a bath. first mistake was QEW, shouldadonea normal wash for this since it was SO sticky, almost ruined two wash mits oh well.

anyway, this is a car he got from a client who didnt want to pay the repair bill, so its not like he paid a ton for it. it has decent paint, but some harsh scratches. some i can tell are beyond help, but others im not so sure. i cannot feel these scratches with my finger nail, yeti hit them 3 times over with UPP and a yellow cutting pad and they didnt seem to budge. also, there is quite a bit oftiny micro marring left that i cant get rid of. i ran out of time, just messing around with the hood, but icould not get those marks out. the surface felt very smooth after UPP 3x followed by MP w/ a polishing pad, but still marks were left. do i just have to hit it again and again?

There are a lot of things that the PC *cannot* remove. If the 1Z UP isn't doing it, then it may well be beyond the PC's abilities.

I find the jump from UP/cutting to MP/polishing to be too great a leap. I do UP/cutting, PP/cutting, PP/polishing, MP/polishing.

I'm finding the PC can only remove relatively minor scratches or marring in my Audi and 15 year old white Cadillac clear , sometimes using it up to a better part of an hour to remove one or two! :(

thats what i thought, just checking though. unfortunately i have a fairly large number of scratches in my bedside of my truck, which appear white on the midnight blue. they are very "faint" and i can barely feel them with my nail, but they are visible. are these most likely beyond my reach with a PC? I can remove the swirl marks easily, but the scratches seem to have no solution.

oh well, time for a cool new paint job :)

It's very hard to say until you try,I can tell you that anything that looked like that on mine would likely need some ample time with a rotary. I would consider learning the rotary, as I am in the process of doing, will save you paint jobs.

The funny thing I have found is that Meguiar's doesn't recommend anything more abrasive than DACP with the PC. I had a Camero last weekend, and it had some really bad scratches on the spoiler DACP wouldn't touch with a yellow pad. I decided to experiment, and put Heavy Cut with a yellow pad and some pressure on a small section. The scratches were gone, and it left a haze. I followed up with #80 and an orange pad and the thing looked perfect.

Ah ha! See! You got to experiment. I'm glad it worked out for you! :xyxthumbs

The PC has limits, for sure...

Don't be afraid to try aggressive products, as the PC won't generate enough heat to cause a problem... it may not generate a enough heat to break down the product, either...

ThePC is a great tool, but...
