Some customers just don't get it (pics).....

I dont have a garage, and want to blackfire my gti. Polishing it will take about 3 days or so. Is it ok to quickdetail each pannel then use the polish? Because dust and such will accumilate. Or must i wash every day before i polish...

thx

Better make sure your parking brake is set...that is one steep hill!! :scared

BF is an excellent sealant. Easy to apply and wipe off. The shine rivals most good waxes. I would stay away from the BF wash though, as I think it may be part of the reason that the shine is less durable than other sealants. I have been using Z7 and the shine is still going strong! As with all the sealants, the more layers you slap on, the better the shine and durability. The BF QD is also an excellent product, similar to Z6 in the Zaino line. Really brings up the gloss after a wash and for a quick detail.

Only you can answer that question, and I think you know the "right" answer, wash it. Do it right, and you'll have less chance for regrets.

I wouldn't have any problem with that as long as you don't run the risk of damaging your paint by only QD'ing before applying the polish. If the car is just sitting outside, not being driven, all should be ok.

Test a small area first with the QD, make sure you aren't getting any scratching/marring and if it looks ok, go for it!

Love the GTI, btw; looks awesome with those wheels and all black...mmmmmmm, gti. (Homer Simpson voice)

thanks for the compliments... =D

ILl just wash the quarter pannel down with water/soap then get to waxing. I did the whole front of the car boy am I impressed...

I recently worked on a Mercedes for a new customer. Car was destroyed and the guy wanted it to look its best so he can sell it. I spent 7 hours on it between polishing and interior, I could have spent 7 more. When he heard my price (which was a discount) he was shocked. When he came to pick the vehicle up, he brought a flyer for a ?popular? detail shop in town that has been here for 15 years apparently. This is also the detail shop that he had used before coming to me.

He wanted me to see the prices that they were charging, since they are my ?competition? here in town. After looking at the prices I flat out told him, ?I understand your concern and appreciate you bringing this in, but this place is not my competition.? It?s a shop that charges dirt cheap prices because they have 20 hired hands and use subpar products. I explained to him that I use only the best products for my customers and charge accordingly.

He still paid my price but actually said ?I just thought you should know about your competition since I can?t really tell much of a difference.?
Can you guys tell a difference?

That's how my "competition" left it.

It?s just frustrating to break my back because I actually care what cars look like when they leave my hands and then have customers not appreciate the work.

I'll remember that when he comes back to have his other cars done right.

Kody,

That was a great job !! You did the absolute best work on it, and it shows.

The Client is an Idiot/Loser at best, and blind on top of that ! He is lying to you also, to try to make you feel guilty, which is so far removed from the truth.

If I had a A$$Clown show up with a piece of crap like that and try to guilt me into lowering my price, I would show him the door.

Sorry this had to happen to you.

You should have maybe charged him more then you quoted him for blind and seeing your work. I would wonder what he say's to a plumber after their done.....................

This is my one big gripe with this business is those who do not "get it"

A nice way of addressing his concern would be to look him straight in the eye and ask him he cannot tell the differene of one single surface on his vehicle that you treated vs the hack shop???

I am usually a pretty easy person to deal with but if one of my clients started to talk price vs quality I will take them to task.

The car looks really great BTW.

"Senor A$$clown....please report to cheapinowskiville.......and make it snappy you hump. The only thing wrong here is that he made it past the initial conversation when first calling. I get guy's like this at least once a week, and when they start the usual B.S., I tell them when you are ready to pull the trigger on quality let me know as I have a call coming in....thank you for calling.

Do NOT let this guy get under your skin, tell him next time use "The competition" as why on earth are you here then?...........we all know why .....because he knows you do it right.

Thank you all for the responses. I've learned too much from everyone here and I think it's a spit in the face to compromise what we pride ourselves in.....quality.

I guess everyone runs into these types of people, I'll just take what I've learned and keep moving forward.

I completely agree. The cheap details, a quick wash, a one step machine polish/wax/glaze to hide the scratches are an extra 20 minutes for the big places. I have to admit that I've had them do it to my wifes 4-Runner before. The results are o.k. Nice shine, but no clay, no correction, no time spent for a true detail.

A lot of people confuse going to a car wash and paying $15-20 for wash as a "detail".

It's a completely different thing to do a complete full-on OCD detail.

Johnny

Sounds like an attempt at trying to re-negotiate by putting down your work. LOSER! Obviously, he thought your results were good enough to take it to you in the first place.

I have a standard response for these people:

"We (the cheap detailers and I) have an unspoken understanding; I don't compete with their price and they don't compete with my quality."

They usually either walk away or make an appointment.

Just because a Ferrari and a Kia both have 4 wheels and an engine, doesn't make them the same.:Car smiley:

Kody,
There are a million and one customers out there just like this one. Most people just don't get it. What I would suggest, is make yourself a portfolio of the work that you have done with 50/50 shots and before and after shots, and show him why you charge more. Also, get this customer's e-mail address and e-mail him the pictures that you posted here, and ask him if he can see the difference now.
Most customers don't even realize that their car is covered in swirls. They are so used to seeing them that they think that is how the car is supposed to look. I have been in sales for a long time, and the one thing that I have learned is, that you have to tell the customer what to look for.

I would've just told him "this detail is on the house." Keep all of your stinking money and loose my digits :-B
