SMR + Klasse = Problems? (Also: Dawn washes)

After I wash, clay, and SMR, there's no need in washing again before AIO, right?

And about Dawn washes: I'm not too crazy about using that stuff on my car. I would think that clay and SMR (and AIO) would remove everything there, but even then, I'd like for the clay and SMR to hit the paint / clear itself rather than the klasse and P21S that's on there right now. So just how necessary is it? Or should I just do it?

You won't damage your paint by washing once or twice a year with Dawn. True though that after you SMR there probably won't be any wax on the surface. If you have a lot of previous wax on your vehicle, then it might be a good idea to dawn though.

Wax will not affect how well the clay works though. The coating wax puts down is extremly thin and the wax will still be able to grab all the contamiants in the paint.

If you are using AIO, then you don't need to dawn wash after SMR. AIO has cleaners that are there to help remove oils.

I usually do 1x-3x of AIO after clay and polish to clean and make sure the surface is ready for SG.

There is no point in washing with Dawn with all the steps that you plan on doing. It's not going to strip Klasse for sure and I seriously doubt that one wash would strip P21S completely.

SMR will remove any wax/sealant you have on your paint very quickly and AIO will remove all the fillers left by SMR leaving a surface ready for SG or wax.

The only reason one would choose to wash their car before AIO is to help remove the residue from the Clay and SMR steps.

From a residual standpoint, clay and the QD associated with it can easily be removed by the AIO. SMR (some of which have wax in them) may take more coaxing. It also has particulate matter (the part that does the removing) and that might be easier rinsed off if anything else.

You can do a compromise by just lightly washing your car with your no frills car wash soap rather than Dawn.
