Roof: Just how important is paint correction in terms of "prep" only?

Here's the thread when I still owned my Evo ... you can see how bad the paint was.. I don't know if it shows that i'm pretty good at detailing or a sucker for getting shafted in the money area lol.

This guy is rich to the point that he gave and ENTIRE area of land... 5 or 10 acres to the county for 1.00. It's a very humble and nice thing to do, but it angers me that people are like that and then have the nerve to turn around and look at you like they do for 220.00.

Wow! You didn't even make minimum wage as far as where I live. I suppose it's an education process, as we need to let the customer know what is involved and how many hours it takes. The Escalade owner was irked by whatever I originally said as a quote, and mentioned that he didn't think I should be making $50/hour (so I'm guessing he thought it would only take less than half the time that I did end up spending). I explained to him it would for certain be a double digit hour job, and he was like huh, why, no way, I don't want or need that kind of thing. So maybe your client wasn't intending to be a jerk about it? Maybe he hears from his friends about these 2 hour $80 glaze jobs or something that can "make the car look brand new". ("Oh that guy is trying to take you to the cleaners at $220!")

Anyway, at those rates, you can work for me anytime you want!! :chuckle: Kidding aside, I think I would have just gone for the 105 compound only, forgetting the polish. Just removing those defects and leveling the paint on that car would still be a good value at the price he paid, IMO, for how much work that looks like and the interior included. After all, you sanded too.

BTW, since I might possibly have an Evo coming my way (a black one), could you kindly share anything you know about its clearcoat? Thanks.

Sure... it sucks, it sucks, it sucks lol. Mitsubishi paint is about the cheapest paint you could come across. The good news however is that it doesn't take much to correct it... I would start out with something very mild. Don't quote me on this, but I think the paint microns is in the 60's or so... not very thick. It chips if you look crooked at it.... BUT it cleans up nice and as I said I don't think you'll have much of a problem with it.

Be cautious on the plastic parts with any amount of heat from the pad as well... it can burn pretty easily.

You did a nice job on the Camaro!

Noting its before condition, that guy either doesn't care about his vehicles (thus thinking any expenditure on their cosmetics is foolish...OK, his choice) or he wasn't aware of how much/hard you had to work, or...despite being a "humble public-spirited citizen" etc. etc. (and I've known some of those who were actually horrible human beings ;) ) he simply puts zero value on your time and effort.
