Removing bugs after wash

Chris 182,

I like the idea, but some areas will be tough to get the warm wet MF to keep in contact with the bug infested areas since they are vertical or past vertical. (e.g. on the air dam) Any hints?

Brand new to the forum (be gentle please!), so might be treading on sacred ground here. Can't believe no one has mentioned clear bras at all. Once I got wax (Zaino - actually) on mine, I can't believe how easily bugs come off! Waaaaay easier than they come off of waxed paint.

I havent tried Hi-Temp's HT-25 bug remover, but I've been completely satisfied with everything else I tried from them, so it might be worth a shot. Sparkle Auto (www.sparkleauto.com carries both Meguiar's body solvent and Eagle1 Prodetail prep solvent. Those two arent exactly the gentlest bug removers money can buy, but they sound perfect for the wholesale business. Eagle 1's Citrus prep out of their tunnel wash line might work for you too, and its about as cheap as detailing products come (30 bucks for 5 gallons). If your looking for something a little more autopian, try calling up Steve at Poorboy's World and see if he'll sell you a gallon of Bug Squash. Its great stuff, certiantly not as harsh as the prep solvents, and although it hasn't been released officially yet he could probably hook you up.

I would recommend keeping a fresh coat of wax (Collinite 476S or IW) or sealant (Zaino, FMJ, SG) on the bumpers, mirrors, etc. Then use Poorboy's S&W after a water rinse to remove the devils.

Bill D.-- I tried the BugGuard by PROwax, but I could never get the application thin enough to where it didn't look like I had poured a clear blotchy syrup all over my hood, bumpers, etc. This look turned me off from reusing the product after about two unsuccessful applications, so I can't really comment on the effectiveness of it.

Any tips on how to not get the "blotchy syrup look" after applying the BugGuard would be appreciated.

I'm new to Autopia. I just bought a 2005 Mercedes 55CLK AMG in Orion Blue. My wife is complaining that I am buying more "cosmetics" for the car then she buys for herself. "Hmmmm I said, Maybe you should think about buying more for yourself". I slept that night in the CLK.

I think NYV6Coupe is touching on the bigger problem. What do you do between weekend washings? I clean the dirty little pests off every night by spraying them liberally with QD and then wiping them off with a MF. Each weekend I have been claying the front and re-applying NXT. As long as I keep the NXT "fresh" they seem to slide right off.

Does this seem like the right approach or should I use the soapy bucket every night?:
Hey welcome! Where in MN are you?

Along with the rest of my order from top of the line I ordered the Hi-temp bug remover. I'm pretty excited about trying out the hi-temp line, hopefully i will have good outcome. I will definitley post the results.

The daughter's car came home yesterday and I think it is 1 year since I saw it. The clear was damaged last year so I am not looseing sleep over it. Anyway I removed dried bird crap with tarminator and then scratch x, seemed to work fairly well but I realize I have nothing on the shelf called *crap remover*, was this a good choice?

With my one Zainoed car I wash the bugs off right away when I come back from a drive. I never put it away for the night without rinsing the bugs off first. The trick is to get 'em when they are "fresh".

If it's night time I'll pre-rinse the bugs off the front end, hood and mirrors with Z7 and then go back and wash the car again the next day. With Zaino, the bugs literally slide off. It's never been a problem and if I miss one I just go back with Z6 and take it off without a problem.

On the daily driver most of the front end is plastic. The bugs just slide off the 303'ed surface no problem.I wash bugs off when they are fresh. Even if I can't wash the entire car I always wash the bugs off right away and do the rest of the car ASAP. If I miss any I'll QD them off. Always having a fresh coat of wax on is important. If the LSP is old then the bugs are harder to take off. The longer you leave them on, the harder to remove.

I prefer to use the slickest products available so that bugs/dirt come off easily. I keep a fresh coat of Paste Glaz on the car all the time, so bugs aren't very difficult to get off.
