Pouring from Metal Cans

I got a couple of products that come in those large gallon metal cans that products like Paint thinner come in.



I have Pro's PRO-sol and some Denatured Alochol that come in a can like that. I always end up spilling stuff everywhere when I try to pour out of them though. It runs down the can, etc.



Does anyone have a good way to pour out of them or where to get some sort of pouring spout to put on them?



I'll try to stick a picture up later if you don't know what kind of can i'm talking about.
 
Hard to explain but, try tilting it to the side to pour instead of tilting it forwards. (like washer fluid):xyxthumbs
 
The issue is air replacement.



Punch a hole in the can (on the bottom) at the highest point when pouring. This allows air in the can.



Don't be silly, leave the cap on, turn the can upsidedown, punch the hole, remove the cap, pour the stuff...



This works if you are transferring ALL of the product.



Just need some, not all? Punch a hole in the top as far away from the opening s possible. Pour at a 180 degree angle from the punched hole...

jimamary, How is that going to keep it from running down the sides of the can when I pour and having the pour stream be really wide?
 
Hey Intel!

Pour the liquid from the can with the can on its side instead of upright(if that makes sense?) Just like a quart of oil, you need to turn the container opposite to what looks right. It is an air issue as the liquid is creating a suction. As well, the liquid will get drawn down the outside of the container.



See if you can locate an oil spout meant for quarts of oil. It will screw onto the threads of the can(assuming that it is an universal thread).



If that does not do it, then take a straight metal rod of 1/4" thick. Place it on the outside of the edge against the spout opening. As you pour, the liquid will ride along the rod into the new container.



I would try the spout first! Good Luck! :up

Don't try to pour directly from the gallon can to the bottle you are filling. I pour the gallon container into an empty bucket. I then funnel into the bottle that I am trying to fill. This is especially good when you buy 5 gallon containers.
