Newbie (me) and a PC; little worried

So... yeah. I'm gonna get a PC (hopefully by next weekend). Standard pad kit from CMA, velcro backing, velcro plate, all that good stuff.

Anyway, I've got a few swirls on my 2001 'Bring (clear coated, of course). I'm a little worried about using a machine on my paint like that, especially considering I have no experience whatsoever in that area (other than having a good idea on how to do it from here / David's video). So, I'm kind of looking for a little honest reassurance. It is completely safe and isn't gonna cause swirls, right? Will the yellow pad cause swirls? How agressive is the white? I'm sure some of you guys were a little concerned when you were PC virgins, too!

Just how much better is the PC as compared to hand work? Any little beginners' tips that may not have already been posted?

Go for it, the PC is basically foolproof.

Aggressiveness is a combination of the pad and the compound or polish.

Remember start with the least aggressive combo of pad and polish and work you way up.

Don't worry about it, the PC is very easy to use. Just keep the pad flat on the surface and it'll all be okay. The first time I used it, I was scared I might do something horrible to my paint, but when I was finished, I was surprised at how well it turned out. <--Is that the kind of reassurance you needed?

The yellow pad will cause a few minor swirls, especially on a black car, and as I recall, you have a black car. It's nothing the polishing pad won't take out. Once you get your pads, feel them, you'll get an idea of how agressive they are. Remember, it's always best to try the least agressive pad and then move up if swirls still remain. Also make sure the pad is centered on the velcro pad. The CMA pads barely fit. However, the most important thing is to take your time, don't rush.

Good luck and make sure to take pictures! :xyxthumbs
