Just got a new BMW, The dealer asked me If I wanted the teflon paint sealent or the interior stain proofing. They say they have a warranty for 7 years on both if a stain cant be removed on the interior they will replace the panel/carpet/seat same goes for interior is a stain or water spot cant be removed they will repaint. I find that to good to be true what do you think... I have many sealents and interior cleaner I doubt I will take up on there offer. Just wanted to hear what others think. ?

many members including myself do not believe that teflon does all that much to help a cars finish. you will be able to find much better products through the vendors on this site than BMW will be able to offer. i dont know much about the interior treatments that they do, but i havent found a stain that can stand up to woolite or oxy clean.
 
A whole bunch of thoughts here.
1. From a BMW dealer it has to be lots of dollars, right?
2. Other than the guarantee of replacement, do you really feel it will benefit you?
3. Don't you think you can protect both the interior and the exterior of your car with the products that are available to you?
4. I doubt that you really believe that any of the things they would do will last 7 years.
5. Would you really and truly want a vehicle that you didn't feel like you had to wash weekly, vacuum weekly, wax monthly, detail two to five times a year and just mess with taking care of regularly? I think that would take a lot of the enjoyment of owning and keeping my cars nice away from me.

In case you are in doubt, I wouldn't do it.:)

i work at a dealer and apply these products and find them to be a waste. i don't think they offer any extra protection that proper maintenance and care can't take of. don't bother
 
When I bought my Honda Element last summer I was talking with the finance guy and he said , I know you're a detailer so I'm not going to ask about paint sealant and Scotchguard...Soo he knows he doesn't have any product better than what available to me.
There's a detailer out here selling the 5 yr sealant also and it occured to me that all these long term claims just happen to be the length of the manufactures warranty on the paint.
How much does the dealer want ? 1500 or something like that . So say you have a spot on your paint or a water spot and a carpet stain . You bring it in and they send it to a detailer for $75 and give it back to you . Say you have some paint defect that the detailer can't get out or some clearcoat failure . I 'd imagine they'll use the manufactures paint warranty to cover it. Either way they make alot of money selling sealant and scotchguard.

My suggestion is do it yourself . Clay and seal it . Get some scotchguard from Wal-mart and put on 2 light coats. You're protected for about 6 mnths and $60.

I did have the dealer put on rustproofing though.
 
They want $499 for both interior and exterior. He said the Teflon sealent the car is prepped/buffed then the sealent is applied and its hardend in a oven of some sort. I find this to be BS as well. I have so many sealents and cleaners and buffers I can easily take care of 10 cars but just wanted to get opinions on this teflon they offerd since I havent heard of it before.

First of all, there is actual proof saying that the amount of Teflon in car products is too minimal to be of use. In other words, it is just a scam when they throw in the "Teflon" stuff. Second of all, I think I would say something like, "Oh really? That sounds awesome. Whaddya say we go back to the service area and I can check out this "Oven' you are talking about?" What a bunch of crap! I would then tell him, if you shut up now, I won't tell anybody about your little scam. Then tell him you'll detail his car for the same money as he wants to charge you. Yeah, I can be a real sarcastic...... sometimes. But I hate liars.

First off, congrats on the new ride my friend. You are a knowledgable detailer and I'm glad you put the flag up on this. Put it this way, at $499, is there any interior stain you couldn't handle for less? Also, if you read the contract on the teflon paint sealant (as far as I know), there typically is an annual "touch up" to it. As far as what type of teflon it is, maybe it's the new NASCAR Teflon wax that Jeff Gordon pushes on TV that you can buy at Wally World? You also have to ask yourself, is this the same teflon that you can buy from 4* under their professional series.

...in the end, I think you will make the right choice. Once again, congrats!
 
There is no way this is possible. Alot of clearcoats are toast after 7 years if left untreated, how is something thinner going to last 7 years?
 
Thanks for commenting nick. Im going to get some scotchguard protectant. I have a big assortment of detailing products two whole double door'd cabinents. I think I can manage. I need to get some mats now for the winter.I think scotchguard on all the carpets and platnium UPP x4 on the exterior is a good way to keep it protected.

One thing bothers me near the pedal is that BMW didnt use plastic or vinyl to cover the side of the where your shoe might the carpet when your foot is on the gas pedal. I think I need to put a strip of clear tape or such there to prevent wear.

Bet the dealer cant touch this assortment :) Have to get some pictures of the other cabinent its filling up aswell.

thats just not fair...lol. great collection you got there. after seeing that, im suprised you even considered letting the dealership take some of your detailing fun away from you.
 
I've had great success with Scotchguard for the carpets as well as the aerosol (Fabprotex) from Stoner's.

Now gimme some pics of the car!!
 
just a thought...you can get any car tuning shop to put a nice billet aluminum floor panel in there for some bling and to help with the wear and tear. Not expensive...I believe you can buy kits...something to consider, it would be a shame to ruin that sweet car.
 
I got a set of bmw winter mats... Its supposed to be 50 out tommorow I will wash it along with my jeep and wash the garage out aswell.
