NanoSkin towel

One of the people here posted that the nano skin towel should be wet with warm water. GREAT IDEA! I have one and it will definitely leave marring and require polishing but the warm water should soften the matrix and make the abrasives less aggressive by softening their support. Also, use the spray lube that comes with the towels.



These are a very good addition to the tool kit but like all tools, not the best in every single case.

the thing i don't like about ADS is they don't back up the products they sell, and will tell you to call/contact the manufacturer if there is any issues/problems which IMO isn't good business...
 
My first time use of the nanoskin towel. After following proper break in (using the towel on glass with the glide lube for at least 2 mins) This method rocks!!! Also works great on glass. I just ordered more of the glide lube for the towel.

Got to use my nanoskin towel Sunday for the first time. Why did it take so long for someone to come up with this gem ? j/k. It was sooo... much easier to do my truck (F-250 4x4 crew cab) with the acres of surface. The marring was very slight and this was followed up by a full correction and application of opti-coat. This towel now has a spot on my detailing shelf no doubt. Have to also give credit to Tom Weed for driving up from Bloomington to Indianapolis and walking me through the opti-coat install. This guy ought to be teaching a detailing class. Thanks again for everything Tom.

Well, thank you Paul, Teaching a detailing class? lol, I dont know about all of that, but I did enjoy making the trip and helping out a little, the truck looked great, and yes, the only thing IMO that's not impressive about the towel is the price! I'm gonna have to get me one of the Meguars DA's, very smooth...



P.S. Glad we only used 10ml's on the truck, getting better at not being so heavy handed with it, now you have enough to do your firebird...
 
Hotrod66paul, thank you for sharing your results, glad you really enjoyed using the Speedy Surface Prep Towel. This and many new ideas using this new patented "Polymer" system will soon be hitting the market. Currently I am testing a few new ones, including a new "Fine Grade" Autoscrub pad for the d/a which is 15% less abrasive than the towel. This Nanoskin Autoscrub system will now be available in both "Fine & Medium Grade", Fine will be interfaced to a blue foam, and the medium grade to a red/orange foam. This will make it easy differeciate since most detailers are use to this color code. This new pad is ideal for new car and black car prep where the d/a can be utilized, also available for the pad is a velcro strap so you can use it by hand as well.

In regards to the break in of the towel, may I ask how you did this? and did you use the Glide or Shock Nanoskin products. I know just like you, my clay is now collecting dust, all 16 new bars of Clay Magic....time for a fire sale!



Just for the record I had a gentleman from Illinois call me yesterday that runs a very successful detailing business. He told me that using the prep towel he was able to prep over 90 cars with it in a 2 week period and it still performs awesome! So regrading price or ROI, as a professional detailer it makes sense in so many ways and the cost is totally justifiable, but as a weekend hobbyist or DIY'er the cost is will be more. Imagine 90 cars prepped from a towel that costs $55.00.....Clay can't and won't touch this product in so many ways!
 
For breaking the towel in I placed it on the windshield of my truck and did circular motions till there was a little soap like residue coming from under the towel.I used the Glide that came with the towel as a lube. If this towel only does half as many cars as they claim , I'll be more then happy.
 
Interesting stuff, David.... do you know if there are any plans to come up with a less aggressive towel as well?



I got an email from the president of SM Arnold (who also market the SSPT) after I made and posted my video review and suggested the idea to him in response, but I don't know who actually makes these products or what kind of influence they have over the manufacturers. It would certainly be helpful on some finishes, since I have found on particularly soft paint that it acts similarly to wet sanding with 4000 grit. Not usually a big deal if I'm polishing afterward anyway, but being able to lessen that effect would appeal to me.
 
Did I miss it somewhere, but how do we clean these towels? I just ordered the kit today, so I might be out of the loop since I do not have the instructions in front me.

Just rinse it off with warm (but NOT hot) water and let it air dry. You can use a little bit of liquid soap if needed but that's about it.
 
These claybar towels are going to be the next big thing. They remove fallout/overspray much faster, last much longer, and are less work than a normal clay bar.



We will be stocking these as well. (Order already placed with supplier.)

I guess I'll answer my own question (SM Arnold evidently closely monitors the feedback on their products!):



I'm told that there is in fact a "fine grade" towel in the works, and that additional information should be available in the next 30 to 60 days.
 
Correct and a fine grade AutoScrubber that Dave is testing now. Also, some related very cool similar products. Glad I stocked them before the "big guys" get ahold of them.



Googled "Speedy Surface Prep Towel" and our video was next to Dave's at the top of the first page....now, to get my towel company there. :)

Sorry I didnt answer sooner, had a busy day doing product testing and evaluating. Yes as you mentioned a less aggressive more consumer friendly towel is in the works....



For cleaning I just simply liberally spray my Nanoskin Glide lubricant on the towel and wipe dry with a MF towel.



The important thing to keep in mind with the SSPT and the Autoscrub pad is knowing the product and how it reacts to different temperatures. Like clay, these products do not react well when cold and hard...take for example a cold, rock hard clay bar against a cold panel on a vehicle....what you get is marring for sure. Same goes with this polymer material, it acts like clay....if you put it in the freezer and get it stiff, rub it on a cold painted panel and you will get marring.



Both clay and this polymer material act similar when very hot or when used on hot panels....it will stick and the performance is horrible. Once you get past the initial curve of getting use to the product, and how to best use it, it rocks!



As I have said before Nanoskin developed this polymer product to be used with their proprietary liquids....No other lubricant or Polymer sealant works as well as Glide and Shock....if you have purchased one of my promo kits, I am sure you will agree that the towel and "Shock" is just a ridiculously awesome product that delivers!



Today I worked with the Nanoskin Fine Grade Autoscrub pad which I am currently testing for the mfg using their new twin engine, twin tank, 45db extremely quiet Evergreen powerplant...using a pnuematic d/a and the Autoscrub pad makes it so easy for vehicle prep!
 
As Charlie alluded to earlier; necessity is the mother of invention. I only surprised that it took this long to come up with an alternative product to monopolized clay.



Good to see a detailer taking the initiative by promoting / selling a new product (and living up to his company name ;)
 
Just bought one from Innovative Detailing, excited to try it out! I hope it arrives in the next week, first detail of the year the weekend after next!

I'm still not so sure I'm comfortable with the Autoscrub pad concept; I'd be worried about trapping grit between the pad and the paint and instilling pigtails. At least with the SSPT you can hear/feel what you're doing a bit more easily and prevent those issues.... but maybe that's not a legitimate concern.



Definitely looking forward to having a fine grade option available for softer finishes!
 



See now in this video, I get the value of the system on that kind of finish, of course following up with some kind of polish or a glaze. But I think the towel is going to get more mileage for my jobs.



As to the nano shine, while I get the whole "not to our standards" kind of thing, some folks really would not know or care about the extra hazing- just as long as the paint feels smoothe and has a lil shine to it. I can see Nanoshine beig useful in combo with a milder prep towel for the really express jobs. Definitely on my to-buy list in the very near future.
