My wife's car (the challenge)

This is my wife's car. It is black and shows swirl marks and spiderwebs on the trunk and hood. At the right angle it looks really good though. Again, as the Buick, it was clayed, Megs NXT with #26 over it. This is the car I bought all the new stuff for.

I'm going to be busy for the next couple of weekends so I'm going to wait until after that to redo the Monte Carlo. By then the #26 will be getting thin anyway.

Which product do I use first? The 1Z or the Sonus? I'm thinking the Sonus.

I would start with a cleanser, because based on those photos it appears that the paint is in good shape. I would not get abrasive yet IMO. You will need a fine finish wax or synthetic, to achieve that perfect deep resolution. It doesn't look like you are far from that.

Good luck and very nice looking MC.

Definitly clean before polish .IMHO. Didnt you clay it? I think I do things backwards ,but I use cleaner before I clay.Is this wierd?I think the clay works the best, but only use it for what the cleaner failed to get off...

Your right tho that car looks good !! Good Luck with it ...

Wheres the All IN ONE? I thought you could not use SG without AIO?

Well, being the 'newbe' here I'm certainly not the expert, but I was told by a very good (I think) source here at Autopia who picked out the products for me, that she liked the 1Z polish. My understanding is that AIO is both a polish and SG, but SG is the final coat regardless what polish you use before hand. We'll see I guess.

I posed the question of compatibility to the sellers of the Sonus Paint Cleaner regarding SG. I was given the answer that AIO should be used prior to SG. So, it should be 1Z, then AIO, then SG. The Sonus Paint cleaner would be used for other toppers other than SG.

Oh oh.... That doesn't make me feel warm and fuzzy.:bow

I don't know anything about the paint cleaner or whether it can remove any hazing but using 1Z PP on black with a PC the first time I hazed the paint with it in a few spots. You may want to get a mild polish like 1Z MP to have around just in case.

Nice monte. Must be fun to drive as the supercharged version.

Bob

It is fun to drive and pretty peppy even though this is not the supercharged version. This is one of the first in the series 2002 and one of only 3333 made that year.

Nice MC. 1z PP works well on my wife's black mustang. It has removed the majority of swirls on her car. Marring after PP has not been an issue with her car.

Yeah, the SG should be applied after first using AIO.

Sorry, not familiar with the Sonus product.

No way to tell what you need to use on the Monte since from the pics in the shade you can't really evaluate the paint.

PP might leave a ready-to-wax finish, and it might not. Depends on if it's used correctly (fully broken down) and also on how hard the paint is. Sometimes you just have to use something milder after PP, other times you don't.

Be careful around the "Dale Earhart"/etc. stuff as you don't want to mess it up (the PP might be too hard on it).

i would polish first, then use the paint cleanser (advice from peggy becker, and david bynon)

Dont take offense to this, but why would you want to polish a dirty car?It just never worked for me.

Just trying to find out why you would do this??:nixweiss

the SG bottle states that if the paint is new, you can apply it without needing anything else.

Peggy's explanation was Always treat flaws that require abrasion first before paintwork cleansing.

It defies my logic, but I figure she's the expert and I'm just a beginner (at 65). So I'll go with her explaination.:)
