Menzerna or Poorboy's polishes?

I am in the market for a new set of polishes. I have the Sonus DAS pad kit (the orange, green, and blue pads), and I am happy about them. But I was never really that satisfied with the Sonus line of polishes simply because they did not really improve my swirls after multiple passes with Sonus SFX-2 and SFX-1 (the rubbing compound, using the orange pad). Quickly looking around the net and this website, I did notice that many liked both Menzerna and Poorboy's polishes. Which line-up should I get? Also, which products from both manufacturers would replace my-Sonus products, which include SFX-1, SFX-2, and SFX-3?

I use both the Menzerna and Poorboy's polishes. I like the Menzerna results slightly better, but the Poorboy's are a little more user friendly. I haven't used the Sonus, so I can't make a direct comparison.

You can't go wrong with either line.

Ditto what Zane said. I don't have personal experience with Menzerna, but people love the ceramiclear line. They have found it to leave a very glossy but properly clean finish. Poorboy's products are very simple to use. They don't require a rotary, and results with a PC are stunning if you work it enough. Menzerna polishes, on the other hand, are designed for use with a rotary, so using them with a PC may not give you optimum results. It will also take you longer to achieve the same finish as a polish that has been proven to work with a PC.

The only polishes I have tried are Poorboy's SSR 2.5 and Pro Polish, and they have worked great. On some jobs, the SSR 2.5 has left a fine enough finish to allow application of an LSP right after using it. If you are using these new polishes for customers' cars, get the entire SSR line up (you'll most likely use 2.5 as your go-to if this is the case). The polish with carnauba and pro polish are quite popular and have been proven.

Menzerna Intensive Polish and Final Polish have been used here successfuly via PC, but Power Gloss and the Ceramiclear line are better for rotary as I stated previously.

Menzerna all the way. Poorboy's is a little bit easier to use, but IMHO the better results of Menzerna are worth the hassle. The Ceramiclear polishes are not cheap, but if you can pull an extra 10-15 bucks per detail creating a shine that the other guys can't match, they more than pay for themselves. I've boosted my prices by 10 bucks or so on the average detail, since I started using PO85RD. I feel the results are THAT much better. If its your own car, I'd suggest trying to buy a sample size of PO85RD and PO106FF. I use mine via Cyclo, and I have no complaints on the finish.

Good thread. I've only used Poorboy's but I wanna try Menzerna since so many people have been reporting good results. I only got a PC though, so not sure...

PC w/4" pad, perhaps? I used the 4" for the first time today and loved it, if for nothing else it's manuverability... So much easier to get around than a 6.5" pad and didn't take considerably longer to get around the car. Of course, I was just applying a polish, but with a stronger product like these, I think it would work wonders over a 6.5" on the PC.

Hmm... I used 4" orange pad before, and while it does seem to have more cutting power, unlike you, I find it harder to maneuver. The PC keeps wanting to tip to one side or another. I don't think I could ever use it to do the whole car. The pad also seemed to be VERY stiff (ordered from properautocare.com).

I have both Menzerna IP/FPII and the Poorboy's SSR 2.5 & 1. Overall, I prefer the Menzerna twins due to "half-a-notch" better gloss and a squeaky clean finish. However, my SSR's have not been relegated to the back of my polish shelf...IMO, I find them a lot easier to apply and use with a PC (when compared to Menzerna) and they are "semi" sun-friendly. I say "semi" because they can be worked in the sun but if car surface is very hot, no polish will stand up to the heat (although you can work SSR alot longer than IP/FPII in that situation).

Just my $.02 and you can't go wrong as both are quality products,

Menzerna is top notch, but Poorboys is much more

user friendly, IMO. However, Optimum polish has been

slowly taking the place of both my PB and Menzerna

collection (save for PowerGloss). Another product I am

interested in trying though, is the AutoInt Cerious polish.

It's suppossed to tackle the ceramiclear paint

like the 106 and 85rd polishes offered by Menzerna.

I'm also debating on whether to go Menzerna or PB's SSR line. General consensus is that they product pretty similar results with PB's being more user friendly and Menzerna being more effective with rotary and producing slightly better gloss (although, doesn't FPII contain oils while SSR1 doesn't contain any??).

Sorry to change the subject, but does anyone know which is the more aggressive out of SSR 2.5 and IP?

Choice is easy for me. I have all of them

Can't wait to get a big bottle of PO85RD after what mizzuri showed me the stuff a few weeks ago.

Used Menz IP, FPII, Sonus SFX3 and VM,RMG with sensational results on the hood of my car. Not a swirl or hologram and the gloss is jaw dropping

Poorboys SSR 1 I used after IP and FPII (friend has FP I) apparently FP I provides higher gloss than II

Followed that with the clearkote range and the transformation was amazing

Agree with all opinions on this thread. Menz delivers higher gloss but Poorboys is a superb swirl mark remover line that can be used with Menz or on it's own with brilliant results

The smell and varying colors of the SSR range is something I really like and the ease of use. I work menz quite alot (at 600-900 rpm) and like how it doesn't dry up really quick. You can keep working it as long as you like.

You were a bit harsh on the sonus range though. Have found it to be brilliant. SFX 3's clearcoat clarity is hard to beat, especially after the menzerna treatment

I agree with Zane's comments. I like the user friendly nature (use in sun, scent, etc.) of PB SSR but both products have performed well for me.

I also have had great luck removing scratches with the Sonus SFX system.

Now that I know a little about the characteristics of both line ups, can someone please tell me which product from both Menzerna and Poorboys coincides with Sonus SFX-1 and SFX-2? I must say, I do like SFX-3 for it's abilities as a finishing polish, but its the swirls I am having trouble trying to remove. As a reminder, I have a PC, if this helps anyone.

If I get SSR 2.5, would I need to also buy SSR 2 and SSR 1? I say this because my Sonus line-up suggests that if I were to use SFX-1, I would also have to use SFX-2 and then SFX-3. Is it different with the Poorboy's products?

couple question about Menzerna polishes- what type of abrasive do they use-are they a diminishing type of abrasive?(i'm assuming they are) and if some of their polishes are oil free do they leave microscratches in the paint surface? Isn't the Menzerna line better suited for the rotary vs the PC?
