Meguiar's SoftBuff Polishing Pad After 1 month of use

Looks like you have also been cutting down into the foam. I have 100% eliminated these "pressure" cuts around the velcro on my foam since I have been using my $.79 fix-it invention. My yellow and orange pads are fine despite any pressure on say DACP or Menzerna's IP. I've used the same ring (you just center it up, no glue) over and over again. I made one with a larger outside diameter too. Anyone can make one in about 3 minutes and the thin dense foam from HobbyLobby is perfect.

If you use a smaller backing plate you don't need a ring to prevent damage. It's not the pad that is at fault.
