Anyone else's Meguiar's Pads look like this?

This is after 1 month of use. Yes I detail fulltime, but this is rediculous. When I recieved the pad I matched the velcro up to my backing plate and when turned on, it shook like an orbital. When I FINALLY found the perfect center for it, I had to trace around the backing pad with a Sharpie so the install went quicker in the future.

I wash the pads after each use soaking them in warm water with a little bit of Dawn detergent to break up the polish, then rinse them out and spin dry on the rotary or air dry.

As time went on, the velcro kept separating more even though I avoided pulling it from the sore spot. Also, the pad looks to be splitting in two (where my finger is). This was not like this when I purchased it.

Overall, I think I may have polished 10 cars aggressively. The rest of the uses were for applying VM or other very light polishes. When I applied those, I used pretty light pressure and lower speeds.

I just want to know if I'm the only one experiencing this? I never had any problems with my Lake Country Pads :nixweiss

No problems with my LC pads either. Perhaps your Megs pad is old stock, manufactured back when Megs themselves noted they had an adhesive issue. From what I read, the new Meg pads are ok now. Call Megs and I'm sure they'll gladly replace it for you.

I've had good luck with my Meguiars pads so far.I also wash them with Dawn.My LC pads on the other hand not much luck with them.

While may pads may not get the same use your do, mine are holding up nicely.

I had the velcro part peel off my Hook It plate. I peeled off the pad and the velcro from the plate came with it.

I've had the same issue with the meguiars pad. I also bought a 5" backing plate and the screw came loose

You mean you got a months use ??? Sheesh...I get about 3 jobs out of each pad and either the backing comes off, or the foam itself deteriorates......Ya know, I just dont hav..............ah nevermind, Ill be accused of whining......

I havent had any problems with my megs pads. I use a PC though not a rotary.

6 Polishing Pads

3 Cutting Pads

1 Finishing Pad

all no problems

none of my Megs pads have lasted that long.

I will not buy any more of them. Shame since I can get them localy, now I have to pay shipping.

I have tons of Meguiar's pads and haven't had a problem with even one. Other side is, I have a fair amount of LC pads and the problem that I had with them was because of a too big backing plate that was part of the kit. Pads were replaced with no problem.

Bill D: I talked to Dino about them. He didn't like them much at all saying no matter what there was marring left. He preferred LC.

I have Meguiar's pads that have lasted me years. I have seen the backing tear away, but only after long time use.

I would be very disappointed in only one month of use.

Just to chime in,

We did upgrade our adhesive to be much stronger, however, there is no coding or part number stamping to determine if your pad is pre-upgrade or post-upgrade.

I myself wear-out pads like you show in your pictures, usually from very aggressive PC work, rarely, if ever from rotary buffer use.

Call our Customer Care Hotline 1-800-347-5700 and tell them that I sent you and even share the link with whomever you speak with. Let Meguiar's send you a brand new one for you to try again and see what happens. If the problems continues, then we need to address it.

Thanks,

Mike

Thanks Mike!

edit: Just spoke to Brian. He said to send it back with a note and they'll send me a new one.

I have the same problem when doing aggressive polishing with the PC. I have found the cleaner I keep the pads, the longer they last since the product isn't saturating the whole pad, which I believe will affect adhesive life.

You get three jobs from one pad? The Meg's pads I tried didn't hold up to even one. Velcro seperation on all, and foam breakdown on the pads I used for polish.

Never again.

I have not either. I have done about 10 cars and they are still in terrific shape. I get pretty aggressive when cleaning them and no issues with velcro bonding or the foam splitting.

The LC pads are great...:up I have heard of others with Meg's pad issues.
