LC Cutting Pad... I'm very displeased.

The pad(s) I had the problem with was the 6.5" LC VC Orange cutting pad. I bought it from Autopia along with the 3 other white polishing pads.



I thought about the backing plate issue. I have the 5" flexible backing plate that came in my pad kit from Sonus. It's a pretty perfect fit for the velcro on the LC pad.

You are right. These pads go through alot, and are not indestructable. If I had used these pads say, 10 times, I would expect this to happen. What I'm displeased about is that I only worked 2 panels (The one small fender on my jeep, the hood on my mom's Sebring) and they are both falling apart. I would consider myself skilled (if not just comfortable) when using the PC, and I didn't put these pads through anything that my Sonus pads didn't go through.



If I did something to the pad that is not reccomended by LC (like the wash I used, backing plate, blah blah) then I'll drop it and learn from it. I just wanna know if it was a defect in the pad, and if it was, what can be done to fix the problem :) .



BTW, let me know when you get those cutting pads in. I'll try to get a few of those and some new towels as well :wavey
 
Well, the backing plate isn't the problem. I just checked. The backing plate that Autopia sells with the LC pads is the same one that came in my Sonus pad kit and used with my LC pads.
 
Hmmm... It sounds like you have the correct backing plate for your pads.



I looked at Autopia's 6.5 " pads and they look like the very similar to the 6" pads that www.properautocare.com sells except for the Constant Pressure feature.



One issue though. I noticed that, in the picture of the pad with the 5" backing plate:

the velcro doesn't show under the 5" pad.



This is strange because I'm using a 6" backing plate with my 6" LC pads and the velcro peeks out past the 6" backing plate. I.e., the velcro is a little bit more than 6" wide.



So with a 5" plate, you should see lots of velcro. How much velcro do you see past the end of the backing plate?



Other than this, the only thing I can think of is a product defect. I have read some posts from people who had some problems with the old 6" pads. I don't know if yours is one of those.

When I center the backing plate, I only get enough velcro peeking out from the pad to maybe put my finger nail on. Less than 1/4". Pretty close fit.



I sent a PM out to a representative from LC last night and will post anything new when I get a response.

Hmmm... The 6.5" pads that you have are DEFINITELY different from the 6" pads that I have. My pads have 6" of velcro on them. Yours appear to have 5".

Thanks. I also posted a thread in the Autopia Car Care vendor section. I've had good experiences w/ Autopia, so I trust Mr. Bynon to think of something.
