how many passes do you make with your pc?

well i did a car with a pc the other day and had great results. it had medium swirls so i used dacp on a polish pad and got 90 percent of them out. i found myself going over a 2x2 area about 6 times (3 west to east and 3 north to south) i did a work in at 4, then sped it up to 5 or 6 and put a little pressure and did it pretty slow, then i let off the pressure and went over it again. ive heard people say that it takes them 2 hours for a hood. it only took me about 20-30 minutes. am i not doing it for long enough? how slow do you guys go and how many passes? the stuff i am using with the pc is megs dacp,80 and 9. so what is your method of applying these?

Depends on the severity of the marring. Sometimes the marring can be eliminated or reduced enough for a less abrasive polish to finish off in just one application (with 2-3 west-east and north-south passes per application). As for speed, PC set at 4.5-5.5 and move the pad maybe a foot every 15 seconds or so.

depends on the product your using and what you are working with. I did a Mountaineer today in about 35 minutes, including removal. Keep in mind this was doing a LSP. But it noramally takes me about 45 minutes to do a thorough DACP polishign on an average sized car.

I tend to rush sometimes and it shows. I dont know exactly how many times I go east to west/north to south but I know I work the product in really well and when I buff it off, if the improvment is only slight, im going to fast(not PC speed but hand speed).. When im rushing the PC,then I will need to go over the exact same 2 x 2 area a few times, buffing on and off. Thats when I get the "2 hour" hood. This example is with Megs #80 or 3M PIII MG with a polishing pad.

allright cool, i just thought it was wierd because i see people working hours on just small sections when i did a whole car that had moderate swirls in about an hour and removed 90 percent of it. i heard dacp was suspost to haze? mine didnt haze at all, im guessing its not because you have to buff the hazing off so i am thinking i did it right?

manawar,

You say you got 90% of the swirls out, in an hour? Of course you did it right! :D Sometimes you may need to step down to a less abrasive product to take out the last. . .in your case 10%. You could stick with the Megs line and go with what would be my next step, Hand Polish. I don't always get the same results with the same product, as in characteristcs of flashing or breaking down. I have always made a few passes after DACP begins to dust before lifting my PC and removing the 83. Thats just me. Someone else mught have another techinque :nixweiss HTH.
