Boars hair is really soft to prevent scratching. They have nylon bristle brushes if you want something durable.

Any particular brands that are cheap/easy to get a hold of?
I like the looks of Swissvax's lug nut brush (not sure if it's boar's hair) and I want something like that.

They wear out eventually, but IME they very seldom "fall apart" if you dry them out between uses. Anything more durable would be tougher/less gentle, and I wouldn't let anything tougher touch *my* wheels. Yeah, that includes a whole lot of the brushes that others here like. IME those oh-so-gentle BHBs are plenty effective enough.
