Do I need wool pads?

I'm wondering if it's worth my while to get wool pads for use with the PC. Lately I've detailed some badly marked vehicles that have taken many hours to clean up a cutting pad and SSR 3. Would a wool pad be an advantage here or not?

Thanks

Steve

hmmmm? Cutting pad /w a compound....... Remember that clear coat is thin I would do a little as possible and do a glaze to cover up some of the defects

I don't think that wool pads don't work all that great on the PC cutting pads /w a compound will work faster w/ alot of defects

At that point, you really need to go rotary. A wool pad on a PC is probably going to make a mess that you'll have a helluva time getting out with a foam pad and a PC. I've knocked out 5-6 hour PC jobs in an hour and a half with a rotary, you can always do the cutting steps with a rotary/wool and the finishing steps with a PC, if you're just starting out.

Thanks for your input guys. themightytimmah- I was hoping not to have to step up to a rotary, I'm still a little nervous about the rotary. I've also had very good results over the years with a PC on all but the worst paint. It's the cars with bad scratches that give the PC a real test. I was hoping for someone with experience with a PC and wool pads to chime in, but it looks like its time to step up to the rotary or turn down those bad jobs. Thanks again.

DSVWGLI, I started using a PC back in Oct. I just used a rotary for the first time over the w/e.

rotary work

If you start with some foam pads you are gonna have to do something pretty silly to mess up.

I've used wool pads with the PC. They only offer a *little* more functional cut over foam cutting pads but they leave a *lot* more micro (and not-so-micro too) marring.

Best way to make the PC more aggressive is to go to 4" pads. You can cut through clear with them, voice of first-hand experience.

Thanks accumulator you've answered my questions. I have some orange 4" pads so I'll give them a try. Like themightytimmah and gmblack3a have said maybe a rotary is on the horizon for me??

I'd get one if you don't mind the expense. I hardly ever seem to use mine, but when I do it's something I wouldn't want to be without.
