For the past week and a half I have been using my time wisely by detailing for a few of my regular customers. I'm by no means a professional but I'm trying to learn more and more every time I detail.
Wednesday last week I detailed a 2002 Mazda Protege for a friend of mine. I took pics but the lighting was terrible so the pics didn't come out good and I didn't have time to take afters because my friend was in a hurry. I got most of the scratches out but a lot of them were too deep to fix with the PC. Spent about 5 hours on it and made $80. Most of the time was dealing with the interior...you know how girl's cars are!!
Thursday last week I detailed an 80's Cadillac Convertible. The guy only drives it when its sunny out so it wasn't bad at all considering I hadn't detailed it in a year. It has shag carpetting so it takes a while to vacuum it out. The seats were pretty dirty so I cleaned them up as much as I could but the sun has done some damage to them over the years. The paint is in like perfect condition, minor swirls that NXT took care of. I don't use the PC on it because for one, its not necessary and 2, I enjoy doing it by hand becasue the paint is in such great shape. Took me a little over 4 hours to get it detailed and made $100. (thats their flat rate for their cars..they are good friends of my grandma and are pretty wealthy)
Yesterday, Monday, I detailed the guys other car, a 90's Supercharged Buick Regal. Once again, a clean car, drivers side carpet was dirty. The car is white so the outside was pretty dirty from pollen. Its garage kept whenever he isn't driving it. Like his other car, it was just NXT'd. Took about 5 hours due to moving it in and out of a carport between rain downpours. $100 once again.
This 2 cars that I just did belong to my grandmas neighbors that are pretty wealthy. I have been detailing for them for about 4-5 years now. They used to have their cars detailed professionally but they stopped because they felt they were getting ripped off. I do everything that the professional did(even if he did do it) and charge less than what the professional was charging. When I first started doing their cars they told me I was UNDERCHARGING and thats when they told me what they would pay me to do their cars. They gave me $80 the first time and now I'm up to $100 but now I feel like I deserve that much since I became serious about detailing. I wish I could spend more time on their cars but its hard too since I'm mobile when I do their cars. They still want me to do both of their Tahoes before this weekend but it keeps raining so it might not be possible. I'm gonna charge $150 for each of the Tahoes since those are their primary vehicles and from what I saw, they are going to need a lot of TLC.
Sorry for no pics...the lighting has been terrible around here or the pics have just come out terrible.
Thanks everyone sharing their detailing steps, tricks and how-to's. I have definetely learned a lot in the past year and hope to keep it coming. Next month I will be moving to a new location and will be trying to start up the business at least part-time. I will have pics for sure once I have a garage to work out of with good lighting. thanks DC!!
