Collonite 845/915/476 Use Comments/Recommendations?

Appreciate the feedback, but want to make sure I'm clear. Your feedback is somewhat counter to what Collonite says (although, that's the reason I asked these questions in the first place.....to get real world experience factored in to my product selection choice).

Per the mfr. description, 476 should be the most durable, all things being equal. 915 should be close in terms of longevity & is supposed to be the best looking of the three. But, most of the feedback is that they are roughly the same in difficulty to apply (and I suppose, remove).

845 (the liquid wax) is said to be somewhat less durable, a "finish" somewhere in between the other too, but by far the easiest to use.

It sounds like you have experience with all three products. So, in you opinion, is 476 easier to apply/buff, etc. than the 845? Just sounds like it would be, given the last sentence of your reply (since 476 is supposed to be by far the most difficult to use).

Just checking on the Collinte numbers you're referring to clearly understand your experience.

Thx.

See ya. :wavey

915 lasts longer than 476 or I got 3 bad tins of 476.

I have not played with 845 enough to give my honest opinions on it.

Just make sure you apply it thin and if needed spritz a small spot of distilled water on a panel and spread the wax applicator into the water spreading out the wax evenly and thin. :bigups

None of them are difficult enough to even worry about apllication/removal. The stuff is easy to work with. I put down 2 layers of 476 and then x layers of 915 on top. (usually 2).

I use 476 on the wife's minivan. Put 3 layers on around July 4. I then ordered some 915 and put 1 layer on the hood, front quarter panels and front doors. I have noticed what rydawg is talking about. The lower panels with just 476 require a bit more elbow grease to clean when washing compared to the panels with 915 as top coat. Something about the Goodyear Tripletread tires that are on her van that kick up all kinds of stuff onto the lower panels. A lot of little tar balls are flung onto the lower panels in a very short time. The 915 panels release that dirt easier.

915 is definitely easier to apply compared to 476 and also looks the best. I think durability is a toss up between 476 and 915. The 845 is the easiest of all to apply, but doesn't last that long in my experience.

Out of all the Collinites, 915 is the best one.

I used 476 on a bunch of cars before the winter and I'll be honest, I was not all that impressed as compared to 915. At first it looked great and beaded superb, but did not last long on some of the cars I had seen months later. The 915 cars were all black and 4-5 months later after our very long bad winter, the cars still beaded decent and very little crap was embedded to the bottoms. The black paints were only marred up from the ice and snow 5%. It heavily protected the paint. Very impressed is an understatement!!!!!

The 476 cars were covered with tons of crap on the bottoms of the cars. The beading was pretty much gone, protection was long gone. But it's so easy to reapply often as needed.

The downfall with 915... Stripping it off of a car for a repolish under 4 months can be a pain. Full strength degreaser will bead over this stuff. It litterally takes 6 swipes of wax and tar remover to remove it from the paint.

476 is the easiest to apply and remove if you do it thin. 915 is a little more work, but well worth it on all accounts.

Crap, how did I miss this before I ordered a Collinite product?! I went with the 845 IW, even though I had been leaning heavily towards the 915! :hairpull

I've been using the 885 Fleetwax for a few yrs on several cars I take care of. my best guess is it lasts a good 5mo. on my daily that is kept outside 24/7. I use mainly as a winter wax and is a little work to use.IMHO its the best winter wax there is.

**edit** winter prep wash/clay op ps 885.

Heck with it. I just ordered some 915 as well. It will give me the chance to compare these two Collinite products.

I love the way 915 looks on my car and it protects it as well!

My car is an inexpensive black daily driver that lives outside. It is easy to apply and remove (I was taught to use distilled water to help spread it, and I do one panel at a time) but if you put too much on, it can be a pain to deal with.

With careful washing, I was able to keep my car looking good last winter, using a spray seal every 2-3 weeks to give it a little extra protection and gloss. It also gives me a time to clean seagull crap off my car without the paint getting etched.

Wow, lot of raves for 915. I'm definitely going to have to try it on my flying car when I run out of all my other LSP's.

LOL, me and you both, Setec!

It's time for you to start detailing as a part time job, like me. It's the only way The Boss would allow me to buy all this stuff, plus it's the only way I could ever have enough paint (aka "Fresh Meat") for all my product experiments!

Hey Rob, wanna split a can of 915 with me? ;)

Yep!

My tin should be on its way Monday. Shoot me a PM and we can work out the details.

Hey, sorry if I didn't respond previously. I bought a bottle of 815IW from Autogeek. Seems quite strange to buy a product from a firm in Florida, when it is manufactured down the Thruway at Exit 31, ~110 miles away, doesn't it?? :) Worked very well....easy to apply & remove. Nice shine. Let's hope it stands up as advertised!

The good news was, I got a layer of Opti-Seal and Collinite 845 on the daily driver prior to all the crap & freezing temps. Will see how it works. Good luck in the snow.........(or, said another way.........let's hope we don't have any, so the going will be EASY!!).

See ya. :wavey

Not sure which poster you are referring to, but FYI I bought mine through Autogeek.net. Seemed to be the best net price to me.....even though Collinite is made ~110 miles due east of here in New York State. Much cheaper than buying it from one of the local autobody specialty shops. And, I didn't luck out at the local Harbor freight store like some of the other posters who were able to buy it at ~$2-3 per bottle! :( Bummer.

Anyway, hope that helps.
