Collinite 845 - "Insulator Wax" Application

Well, I have a full bottle of this stuff sitting with the wax pack - Wolfgang, Klasse, P21S, NXT, so forth.

After toying with it, I was wondering if there are any application tips/tricks for this stuff. I know that it's quite popular here, and I've yet to see someone totally hate it, but ... I dunno. I had less-than-encouraging results with it on one panel today, and I was just wondering if anyone else has had a bit of a hard time, or if this is just as notoriously finicky as certain other products, or ... what. Will thick applications make it that bad? Does it take that long?

I'd really like to use this stuff based on how easy/durable it is, but I don't know at this stage of the game.

I have found that if you put the bottle in the sun it thins out and is easier to apply. the old stuff went on smooth and easy and off easy too. The new VOC stuff might be harder to work with :nixweiss

Yeah, that's the thing ... it was in the warm garage all day, and I shook it forever before applying.

I have noticed that IW needs to dry before removal. I usually apply a thin layer to the entire car than go back to where I started and start removing. Just do a swipe test. When you think its dried swipe your finger across a little part and if it removes without smearing its ready for removal. I have found IW to be the EASIEST wax to use, even against P21S and Souveran without smearing.

I had the same luck as you. I applied it to my wife's (dark cherry metallic) Grand Prix GXP and I noticed it "spotted" the paint. I clayed it off & used Meg's Step 3 carnuba wax. The Meg's came out beautifully with no problems. IMO, I'm done with the Collinite.

I think some of the problems here might be the different formulas. I have the new and the old formula and did the roof half with one and half with the other. The new stuff does not spread as well as the older stuff. They both buffed off easily and the look was the same. I am monitoring the beading for durability.

I have tried the new stuff on 4 cars now and I noticed it becomes more slick and glossy after a day. I guess it needs to cure or something. Try to apply as thin as possible and if required apply a second coat. I really see and feel that theres a tough coat of wax protecting the paint, its awesome !

Well, what do you mean about "less-than-encouraging" results? Also, check out my thread on Collinite as a WAUD. Just search for Collinite and WAUD

I guess I have the old formula. I think i will preserving this half bottle of the old formula for while since it sounds like people are having probs with the new formula.

I guess it's just because it wasn't dry, but when I was trying to buff it off in the spot I had applied it, it was just ... well, it seemed odd that it would take much longer than the time it had to be on the paint to dry, and that probably was what gave me the problems with giving the look that haphazard "stained" look like someone didn't use AIO correctly (on a black car.)
