I have been flirting with buying a pair for 4-5 years now. After going through my last pair of danners, that never really fit right, i am ready to move to russell.

Russell "TLC" Toe - Lace Hunter

Built for the most rugged applications, the TLC features a long “ice skateâ€ type counter that reaches to the instep for superb side to side foot support on steep hillside. Laces nearly all the way to the toe for greater control over the tightness of the boot…greater control in steep, treacherous conditions…allows you to select the degree of tightness you want over the instep and ball of the foot.

Standard Claw Air Bob sole with an outside cleat pattern for incredible traction… can be resoled at the factory. Made from black water resistant WeatherTuffTM leather…three layers of leather wrap around the side of your foot for protection and waterproofness.

Sturdy steel shank…cushion collar for comfort…cushioned midsole. Also choice of other soles and leathers. Fully leather lined with AquaTan waterproofed leather for greater water resistance and added support.

Standard Height is 10…any height available.

I am looking at removing the steel shank, and replacing the claw airbob sole with vibram aspen gumlite.

i have had aspen gumlite soles on a few danner boots and liked them. I just wish the boot would last as long as the sole.

Any one?

To each their own. I think those are some god awful ugly boots. I'm about to get me a pair of good ol' Red Wings. This would be a boring world if we all liked the same thing. If you like 'em get 'em!

I was looking pretty hard at Russels about two seasons ago, but ended up with some kangaroo boots from LL Bean. The only issue for me was the weight of the boots. I don't recall what it was, but definitely more than the 3lbs of my current pair.

You going for the full custom fit?

Yeah i will go custom fit. Russel makes roo upper boots. but no full roo boot. I think alot of that has to do with longevity.

the russell above i believe is 3lbs for size 8 with 9 inch uppers.

I plan on having mine made with lighter soles, and 7" uppers.

I prefer moccasin toe boots. When standing in them every day i find them more comfortable.

The nice thing i like about Russel Moccasin boots is you take measurements of your feet, toes, arch, heel, ankle calf.

they build the boot to those specs. they also keep your measurements on file for 10 years.

The perticular Russell moccassin i am looking at is a triple vamp.

Here is an image of a single vamp boot. this is how most boots are made. The second image is of a double vamp, or a more traditional moccassin boot. The third is a triple vamp.

Wow, the things you never knew. Interesting. I can't really tell what is going on in those pics, but it looks like more layers and more support from the leather. Correct? I'm guessing these things aren't cheap if they're custom made.

EDIT: Ahh, waterproofing the old fashioned way!

The pair i am looking at is about 400 shipped.

The leather i will be getting them in is chrome tanned. Which is extremely water resistant. (no leather is water proof).

If you read there testimonials, reviews you can see some of their boots have lasted years under similar conditions.
