Why do you think it took so long for FK1 to gain some popularity here?

Each product line needs a couple key members to start using to create hype.

I forget who started using FK1, but it seemed like the buzz has worn off. Many still use 425, but I don't see much others getting play.

lol! That's why I don't jump on the bandwagon as quickly these days. I did jump on the AW bandwagon, but for <$8 purchased locally I couldn't lose.

I use it alot and it has become my favorite line. I did jump on the band wagon with FK , but thankfully it was worth it. I'm not much of a bandwagon guy except when it come's to stuff like the AW stuff that you can try for $8 or so.

Pretty much have stuck to Poorboys stuff before that and it's still one of my all time favorite product line's.

yeah hype is a revolving door, i dont like fk1's decon kit as i tried a sample of it, 425 is a great product though imo. look how long the klasse twins have been around and many act like its a brand new product even though i do think they changed the aio formula somewhere along the line.

Man, what a loaded question that is. How about process > product, and you can get a good result with almost any product, so it's just flavor du jour around here. We all like the new best thing; why do you think they keep coming out with new Doritos flavors?

^^ what he said. I actually think the hype cycle's funny...3-4 months of rave and then dead silence.

Just find what works best for you.

I originally tried the FK425 for the anti-static and it works great. It also happens to be a great product that shines slightly better than most qd's that I have used.

I do agree process > product, but some products allow you to do your process easier and more efficiently. Right now I am using FK #425, but that is all I bought. I like it and it seemed to help a bit with dust collection (maybe placebo effect, maybe not).

. . . or in the case of FK, a shill to get the ball rolling. FK was pretty much unknown until member "TLL" started promoting it. His relationship with FK was uncovered (took a lot of Google-fu and some luck), and he was outed and banned. Not soon enough, though, IMO.

Still bitter,

Tort

If anything, I was kinda predisposed *towards* giving business to the the breakaway member of the Meguiar's family :D

Generally, unless some product/product line offers something I don't already have, I just don't see any reason to try new stuff. The FK425 sounded special, so I tried it and I like it, so I like to think I'm still open-minded about their stuff.

But some of the stuff I read about FK products just doesn't make sense to me (a sealant that acts like "GoreTex for paint" allowing fresh paint to outgas  ), which is IMHO always a clue. Sure, I'd like a long lasting sealant that allows paint to outgas. But I'm not taking any chances with fresh paint on *my* cars.

FK makes some strong, negative statements about their competitor's products, including dire warnings about how AutoInt's ABC would damage my vehicles. I find it interesting that AutoInt doesn't cast aspersions on FK, they just explain the differences between the two lines and why they believe theirs to be superior. If FK behaved the same way I'd be more favorably impressed with them.

Also, some of their supporters were a bit off-putting during some decontamination system discussions and while it might be unfair to take this out on the manufacturer, behavior like that does influence my interest in trying a product line.

Ya know, it would be interesting to see an unbiased test of FK1's claims about 2180. I'd like to see someone take a freshly painted panel and apply 2180 to half, maybe even a couple layers, then wait several months and see how the hardness was affected, what difference there is in "scratch-ability". Obviously, most folks would rather do this with a pure test panel that was sprayed just for the test, not on their car. Anyone out there work at a body shop that would like to try this out? I'll bet someone here would donate a small sample of 2180.

Well put Sean and also why I view hype with some skepticism.

Bingo. :D

FK historically gets the bulk of their business from auto manufacturers. they make much more money from them than from internet buyers. I'm sure they don't mind the extra sales tho and compared to some "boutique" products they are a good value.

It's basically another line to put in your arsenal of stuff. we all have that arsenal and spend way to much on botique product's , when good prep work , a good wax , a good QD from a OTC product store 90 % ofn people would never notice the difference, but we are anal detailers.

You learn not to jump on bandwagons , but if your into this stuff like we all are it's hard to resist. I personally have tossed stuff that people love like CK , PB SSR line , Zaino , Adams ect...

I think FK is a good line of product's for ME....not everyone , but I love PB stuff alot but hate SSR line. I give so much stufff away every spring it's not even funny, guy in our car club crapped when I gave them a few bottle's of "Z" I personally think it's way , way over hyped and hate the stuff , but other's love it which is cool.

Luckily, I clicked on the right thread before TLL was banned. I'm not that bitter like Tort, because thanks to that thread I got acquainted with a wonderful product line and ordered my first sample package.
