What’s Accumulator using these days?

Great member who got me turned on to FK1000p. I’ll admit I’m not on here much, but wondering if he’s still using 1000p or?

I’d like to order some more but honestly, the shipping is insane. While I’ve had some good luck with ceramic sprays and sealants, I’ve thought about using some old school/OG stuff for simplicity since I work remotely and the car only gets about 5k a year.

Between 1000p and the 845/d156 combo, it brings back memories.

This might be one of those "do as I say, not as....I'm currently doing" situations!

I've been busy with other stuff, and am only now getting back into doing proper Details. The Tahoe needs some paintwork, so I'm not doing much with it until that's done, just using Meguiar's UQW on top of whatever FK might be left on it.

I'd still advocate for FK1000P (or whatever they're calling it now), and that's what I'll use the next time I Detail something. Well, something I really care about ;)

I did try Griot's Ceramic 3-in-1 on a recent acquisition and have mixed feelings as it sure doesn't shed contamination the way the FK does. Easy-peasy though, and OK on black trim, so it wasn't a bad choice for that vehicle (spare dog-hauler my wife has take over since the A8 got totaled).

I'm probably due for a new tin of the FK (still using the first one I bought), and hadn't noted the increased shipping cost. Eh...I'd just pay up, the tin will last for so many years, like..the rest of my life... that whatever the shipping cost I can live with it. I still haven't found anything that suits my purposes better than the FK.

Nice to see you post! I’ve been debating going back to 1000p and you may have convinced me. 1000p and 425 as a drying aid was stupid simple. Price isn’t as great anymore but nothing I’ve used is as resilient to pretty much anything.

I'll admit I'm a little surprised that the FK (yep, the FK1000P + FK425 as Drying Aid) is still such a viable choice. When I read some of the takes on various more-modern products (especially the durability), I consistently think that I might as well just stick with it.

I got *years* out of OptiCoat v1.0 on a set of wheels, but I gather most of today's coatings don't last that long. Collinite and KSG can last a while if I layer them heavily, but *for me* the FK lasts much longer, well over a year for me (note that at least one member here gets better durability out of Collinite- !YMMV!

The OptiCoat v1.0 did *not* shed contamination any better than the FK, no discernible difference at all, at least not for me.

The FK is dead-nuts easy-peasy, whereas the OptiCoat v1.0 was a little challenging (e.g., avoiding high spots) and that was with my OLD-normal vision. No way I'd attempt to get it right with this new-normal vision. OK, yeah...that's just me but it's a biggie.

The FK has resisted etching so well that I no longer even *think* about damage from bug/birds. I cannot imagine how any other product could beat that since it's a simple binary: does it protect for me or not? Yes, it does, case closed.

A tin of FK will last me for the rest of my life, with *lots* left over. It doesn't dry out readily, and IME can be revitalized with some FK425 if it does (worked great on a little sample tin from FK1). The last two coatings I bought (for wheels) dried out before I got around to using them, whilewhat's left of my 20YO tin of FK is still fine.

I wish it looked like Souveran. I wish it were as easy as SprayWaxes. I wish it were more trim-friendly. But then I wish cars were self-cleaning too.

Accumulator, when you say OptiCoat v1.0, are you referring to the pro version? Because the only Opti-Coat us civilians could get was Opti-Coat 2.0 of which there were varied descriptions of what the difference was, one being that it was more diluted, so the film build was less, but it was more user-friendly as far as the high spots. I can see how you might have gotten the pro version, since IIRC I was offered some through a back-channel, which I never took advantage of.

OC 2.0 was very clearcoat-ish, it wasn't slick, and would get clogged so you weren't sure if it was still there. I suspect todays coatings probably do last as long, but the hydrophobics etc. change as the coating wears/ages. I mean, we never really could tell if an LSP was really still there--there were some very good experiments conducted over on AGO that proved to me that sealants were really still there long after we thought they were gone, just the behavior changed and we thought they weren't there anymore.

Unfortunately the pictures got lost in those threads on AGO, which makes them sort of useless. I believe I've linked to them previously.
