This is how I'm going to fix paint!

So I've been semi-professionally-detailing for a month now, and have done about ten cars. I'm not doing show cars, these are usually neglected, and badly swirled and brushed.

I offer a few packages, but my most common is a 3-stage, swirl removal + seal packaged for $190.00 (Canadian dollars, thats like 50 bucks in the US)

I've tried about a dozen products now, and have been fairly hooked on Poorboy's world since the beginning, but I'm finding I can't get enough damn cut from the SSR2.5/Yellow pad to remove the defects from the paint. I've made about my tenth hundred dollar order for product, and this is my final plan for the Swirl Package:

M105 + LC Orange 5.5" on PC

Poorboy's Polish w/ Sealant + LC White 5.5" on PC

(+$20.00) Poorboy's Black Hole Glaze + LC Black 5.5" on PC

Poorboy's EX-P sealant + LC Black 5.5" on PC

I think this is going to be the combination I need to get the jobs done both QUICKLY, and removal a majority of the damage induced by years of abuse.

What do you fine people think?

Ten cars @ $190 = $1900. Ten orders @ $100 = $1000. Profit = $900. :O

It costs me on average about $30 in product, per car, and it varies between $175-$600+, depending. I can do a 45' yacht with ~$35 worth of product, and I charge $15-25/foot, depending.

I personally think you're either not charging enough, or using WAY too much product, or you're paying too much for the product, or, my CAN-USD conversion is way off.

Lol. Ive worked out my consumption to be about $25-$30 per vehicles for products. I have a lot laying around now, I'm just trying to find the best combination! and FINE I admit it may be more like 4 or 5 hundred dollars worth thus far.

Our dollars are basically on par right now.

25-30dollars product for a car? What are you guys using?

A bad car with 105/205/Glaze/Wax and new pads each time would prob be around 20dollars

When I did my calcs I assumed a 16oz bottle of product would be good for 5 cars, and a pad for 10 cars. On top of my primary compound, polish, and sealant I included my dressings, QDs, and conditioners.

EGAD... How long does this "3-stage, swirl removal + seal package" take you??

At $190 it sounds like you are giving in away!

Not trying to be a jerk but the front drivers rim looks far from clean.... could just be the lighting

@ DGAS

I would have to agree! I did this job for another friend of mine for $100. The rims are in very, very poor condition and are badly pitted and corroded. They would require hours and hours of work to correct properly. I just threw some dressing on them because he asked nicely ;). Though I make my best efforts to ensure a clean exterior, for what I charge I specialize primarily in paint correction and protection.

Thanks for not taking offense to my observation...

Now, back to your question and topic of the thread... how long is your 3 step taking you... Like I said, $190 sounds VERY LOW!!

It takes me five hours, and I pay out $50.00 to shop rental per vehicle. Hence why I'm trying to get my process nailed so I can speed things up a little! I calculate I'm making about $23.30 an hour for most of my work.

That seems very low.... AND 5 hours is VERY fast!

Also, I would suggest you follow up M105 with M205, finishing (or trying to) with M105 does not get the paint to max gloss potential. I have not used PB polish/sealant but since M105 & M205 compliment eachother so wel I would use them... Anytime a product mfg's "system" works very well together IMO it is a good practice to take advantage of the benefits.

Also, calling what you have described as a 3 step swirl removal package + seal is misleading... In reality it is a 1 step swirl removal then an AIO followed by a glaze..

Well if you're going to get technical then I suppose your right :P Two stages of polishing, followed by one stage sealant. I figure since even the sealant is machine applied it must have a LITTLE bit of finishing power ;).

Thanks for all of your input DGAS, I'll have to pick up some 205 as well and see how well it works for me. I'm excited to see the results from 105 compared to the SSR2.5!

105 is different, your mind will be telling you to let the product breakdown since that is what most are used to but due to it being non diminishing SMAT you do not need to breakdown as you would a diminishing abrasive...

I think you will be very please with the 105/205 combo and the decreased working time that come with it since that ultimately reduces your cycle time.

Best of luck!

that's what Im hoping for! I've found it very frustrating in the past when treating a vehicle with SSR2.5, even if a panel is not badly damaged, I still need to work it as much as a heavily damaged panel. With M105 I'll be able to work the product for as long as necessary, instead of as long as the polish tells me to!

Thanks :) I'll let you know how things work out!
