In order to test this product I ONLY I used the Surf City Hot Rod Detailer after an Optimum No Rinse wash. I usually use a spray wax or sealant of some sort after a maintence wash but really wanted to test this product.

Application was easy, no streaking occured...A micro fiber was used for application.

I used the following method for application:

Micro fiber was primed with one spray of the product

3 sprays were used on the initial panel (hood)

product was spread with micro fiber

Micro fiber was flipped to dry side

product was lightky "buffed" with dry side of MF

Each subsequent panel took less product as the micro fiber became filled with product.

Summary

Pacakging: The packaging is really top notch..as with the other products I have used from Surf City, they all retain the "car guy" feel. No nonsense straight to the point approach.

Directions: Clear and concise

Application: The product went on and off with ease

Results:

To be honest I wasn't expecting to much from this product. The main reason being is that I rely on other products for shine and protection. My main usage of QD's these days are to aid in my "blot drying" or for the bird bombs.

With that said I was pleasantly surprised when I used this product. It really must be LOADED with polymers because the shine it provided was exceptional for a QD.

When comparring it to other items in my aresenal it gives more of a shine than FK425 which is quite an accomplishment.. and almost achieves the bling of Duragloss Aqua Wax - which is great considering this is a QD (Surf City) vs a Spray Sealant (Duragloss).

Here's some after pics: (pretty wet for just a QD!!!)

Every product I use from Surf City I am impressed with. The wax the glass cleaner the tire cleaner all EXCELLENT products that you wont be sorry with.I also think the price point is right there

Stellar QD......Plus I think the sprayer is perfect for it. Ya know how sometimes you get spray products that have overatomizing spray tips? Big pet peeve of mine. I hate the Megs QD sprayer for this reason.

Hi Motorcity!!

GREAT REVIEW! I love this product and in looks is atleast on terms with FK 425 if not better. The only difference is that this does tend to major more on the anti UV protection rather then the Anti Static qualities you get with 425!

I have only tried a couple Surf City products and thought they where great. However the packaging and names are terrible...lol. It looks like stuff from walmart, but honestly, its the stuff inside that counts.

Thanks for the great review!

Hi!!

I totally agree with you TH001, they are to computer generated for my liking. Some containers are ok. With that Surf City West Coast feel with the old cars they should look back to some of the cool 50/60's images a bit more. A classic but cool feel that you get with Hot Rods etc.

Just thoughts!

I have been using FK 425 over Collinite 845 on my wife's Guards Red 993 for over a year now and thought that nothing would beat the 425 for my post wash wipedowns. However, living in Florida the UV benefits of Surf City's Hot Rod detailer intrigued me. So I got some and tried it out today after the wife got home from work. The gloss and slickness actually beat 425. I was very impressed.

The one thing I noted though was that in the rear, where the body was still warm, streaking was an issue. Not so on the rest of the car and after the car cooled down a respray was fine. From now on I'll just have to take surface temperatures into account....

I tried it out and my opinion is that this QD is a little above average. I like Optimum, FK425, and Quickshine better.... Just my opinion......
