Snowblower Waxing

I just bought a new Toro Snow Destroyer Self Propelled Death Machine. Since I am Autopian, I will be giving it a good waxing/sealing/etc as soon as it gets delivered. I'm thinking about Klasse AIO topped by several layers of SG. I'm hoping the wax will help move the snow through the machine a bit easier. Really...there is a method to my madness.

I'm choosing Klasse because it is a sealant and can stand the cold winter better. How slick will SG make the finish? I could always Quik Shine everything to help maintain the slickness. I'm just afraid that the moving snow will quickly take off the QS in a heartbeat.

Or, am I just going too far in hoping that any wax or sealant will help move snow. Obviously, my main focus is to keep the machine looking new, but I was hoping that I would get additional benefits. It is supposed to shoot snow 45 feet. Maybe with enough Klasse, I’ll hit 50…:D

I don't wax my snow blower. I just keep her tuned up and install new rubber blades and I'm set. She's looks like a real beater, but runs like new!

To help prevent snow blockage, I spray the inside of the chute with some WD40 so the snow doesn't stick. Works fine.

Snow blowers are THE best invention. My neighbors just slunch over in defeat over when I'm triumphantly plowing and they're stuck with a shovel trying to move 8 inches from a 25 yard driveway!

Any finish put inside the chute will rapidly degrade due to the amount of snow/salt/slush/etc. going through it. My Toro 825 was detailed last spring just before I put it away, I QD it at least once a month ( it's in my storage shed).

I use silicone spray on the chute...works like a charm!

The exterior surfaces will certainly benefit from a detailing. OTOH, I suspect that product will pretty quickly wear off of the snow-travel surfaces because snow (ice crystals) is pretty abrasive. You may get a little more distance initially, but it probably won't last.

You are not alone with your affliction; the first thing I did when I got a pressure washer this summer was AIO/SG it. Each time I am done using it, I wipe it down with EO Wax-As-U-Dry. :D

The wife had suggested that we buy a couple of shovels. We don’t have a big driveway (two cars wide, four or so long), but it is big enough to be a pain in the butt. Plus, my wife is from NC, so she gets cold when it’s 40 outside. All of her co-workers told her that a snow blower would be well worth it.

So, I ended up with the Toro 826. It has a single joystick for chute direction and angle adjustment. It is very smooth to operate. Much better than a crank and lever system.

The mower place suggested a silicone spray for the chute. It’s plastic, so I was leaning towards Clearkote’s Tire Treatment. Now that I bought a brand new machine, we are assured of no snow this year…:D

I have a MTD 8hp 2 stage self propelled that I picked up second hand but is in really nice shape.

Mine gets a QD a few times a year and a coat or two of cheap-0 wax. Every time I use it the insdie and the chute get a spray down with WD-40. So far so good. Evey year it also gets an oil change and spark plug, thats about it.
