Hey guys!! My dad and I repainted the trunk lid of our '90 Honda Accord a few days ago. After painting it, we hit it up with some rubbing compound and made it to shine like a mofo. Although the paint doesn't look the best, but it's 95% perfect. While my dad buffed the trunk, I detailed the car. Note: It's not the best looking, especially when this thing is 13 years old. But it sure as h*** that it is the best looking '90 Accord on the road. Here're the pics:

Like I said, it's not the best paint job in the world but it's good enough!!

199,681.3 miles on the clock with almost all the engine parts are still original... other than normal maintenance items. Tell me what you guys think. :D

EDIT: The pics taken above were after the detailing but since we had so much rain lately, I took it when the car is kinda dirty so the quality of the detail job isn't up to Autopian standards. I apologize.

i will probally get flamed for this but thats one of japenese built accords...it will live forever, on that model expect to change valave cover gaskets and thats about it 300,000 + will be easy

Neh, I doubt you'll get flammed for it. This Accord was actually built in USA. If I remember correctly, it might have been built in Marysville, OH. They're still producing Hondas at that plant. Our other car, '98 Honda Accord EX-V6 was built there.

Excellent job on the paint. Nice to see a 13 year old Honda in excellent condition.

Wanna come over and paint my '83 Accord beater?

looks like you have some orange peel, you may not have blown enough paint on there? wet sand and buff my friend.

did you clearcoat it?

yeah. you can wetsand it and buff it and get it to glass like crazy. i did it on one of my old motorcycles and the paint was flawless. not "cheap" flawless, it actually looked incredibly good. it just takes patience to get it right.

Alright...thanks for the tips guys!! For wetsanding, what grit sandpaper should I use?? 1500, 2000, or 2500?? And once I smooth it out, should I use rubbing compound or should I use SMR? Thanks again!!

.
what grit sandpaper should I use??

Depending on the surface you might want to start with maybe 1500 or 2000 and work up to 2500 then follow up with Meg's #9 and then your favorite polish and wax. Any clear coat? If you haven't clear coated it yet, it would be a good idea to wet-sand the base coat first, then apply the clearcoat and wet-sand it as well. IMO Lookin' good though. :xyxthumbs
