Should I even bother with this KEYED car?

One of my customers had their car keyed up. Do you think that I can fix the scratches using the paint repair instructs mentioned in the Autopia "Guide to Detailing" CD (using touch-up paint, toothpicks, etc...) or should I just tell this customer to get the car repainted? It's a current-model Dodge Intrepid. If so, any tips on performing the repairs?

Personally, I'd probably recommend a repaint for him. I've had success fixing single key marks, but I'd be surprised if anything would work well there.



On a side note, I'd like to see the person who did that be forced to serve 10 years of community service, picking up trash on the highway......
 
Repaint. There are way too many scratches that are way too deep. It wouldn't be cost effective to try touching all of that up IMO.
 
I was thinking the same thing as Peter. Wow that is sad. I'd say repaint and if the creep was found have him run across 8 lanes of traffic and then pick up garbage.



Seems fair to me.

if some1 did that to my car id find out who did it and go back and destroy their car...cops would take care of it the right way an the guy deserves it, its unexcusable
 
I also feel very bad for this customer who owns this car. He is a good person, but because of the nature of his job, things like this can occur.

Let me guess, either a social worker, teacher, or a bank reposessor...?
 
I feel their pain. I have had my (former) car keyed twice, but this one looks severe. It will be better to either repaint it or leave it alone. If there is exposed metal, then those areas will need to be touched with primer and touch up paint. If your not going to repaint, then that is what will remain, unfortunately. Touch-up paint and spot wetsanding/polishing will make it look better and clean up the damage, but the effects are too severe to reverse IMO.



I just can't stand to see cowardly acts such as this. People should resolve their issues with the person intended, instead of committing mindless damage to property.

If I were him (the customer), I would be very pissed. I wonder why we have so many rejects (at such an abundant supply) who messes with someone else's property. This type of episode makes me not to buy any expensive car (such as BMW, Corvet, Benz, and etc). I would buy a BMW or other expensive cars if no stranger will get close within 2 foot radius from my car. However, it is inevitable you will bump into an As_h_l_.
 
Principle of a high school, that's all I will say. Some hate them, others love them. It all depends on whether you are a good kid or a bad one.

I saw that happen a lot in my middle school, both scratched and broken windshields. Repaint and walk to the job IMHO.
 
I would sand the scratches so it's smooth and then have the entire car painted in Rhino liner or Line-X. Or paint it in camouflage paint, that way it's really easy to touch up, just keep 2-3 cans of spray paint in the trunk and spray it right there in the parking lot.



I agree that it's too risky to keep painting the car everytime a HS punk is angry or bored. The other choice is to put surveilance cameras on the car and make the little $hits pay.
