Pad Survey Thread?

Has anyone ever done a comprehensive pad review for the PC polisher? I know the PC Thread in teh Article section, but is thee a pad one? I plan on purchasing my 7336SP from Lowes sometime this week. What I do not know is which pads I should buy. There seems to be a monster selection out there. CMA carries several different ones alone. Since I will most likely be shopping at CMA (gotta support those that support the forum), I would like to figure out which pads is my best option.

I'm sure that there will be numerous opinions on which one to use. They have Standard Variable Contact Pads, Advanced Variable Contact Pad, Orange Power Pads and their Best Foam Pads with 'Fingers'. I'm confused right there. I've never been one to buy the basic, and usually upgrade at least one level. Then again, I'd really like to see which one would be the best, non-breaking the bank option.

It will be my first use of a PC polisher. I have a black Grand Prix and a pewter or so Saturn that will be my test subjects.

Any suggestions or maybe a lead to thread that I missed while searching? I appreciate the help as I really have no clue which to use. My only previous experience with polishers was an 11" orbital that I used with terry bonnets many moons ago.

Thanks,

Scott P

Ok, if nobody knows of any previous threads about this, do you have recommendations on which pads I should use? I currently use Zaino, but would like to do a good amount of surface prep to the swirl marks I currently have, along with giving Klasse a try one of these days.

... and can't complain about the foam pads supplied with it. Got lots of hours on the yellow and it's holding up fine. I doubt I recommend the kit though- the terry bonnets are about useless :)

First off, I am as lost as you, but pads are like waxes and sealants. It seems there as many different opinions as there are pads. I happen to use Meguiar's pads as Meguiar's recommends them to be used. Polishing for polishes, finishing for waxes for sealants. I remove any product, polish or wax, with MF towels.

If I were going to buy CMA's pads, I think I would contact them for their suggestions. They have a good reputation for knowledge and being up-front about produts. They should know their products as well as anyone.

Here is CMA write on the pads: CMA Pads

I would get the kit because it comes with the velco backing plate which is a must if you are changing from pad to pad plus you get 2- white, 1- yellow, and 1- gray. You will use the white the most I think and its good not to mix products with the same pads. I use one pad per product. As of right now I must have about a dozen pads.

Good Luck you will love the PC and I don't think you can go wrong with the CMA kit but like porterdog said the terry bonnets are useless.

It seems like I remember a post about CMA exchanging the terry pads for MF pads if you talk to them about it when you order. Might be worth checking out.

When I purchased my PC I got it from Griot's. (I know, I paid too much for it) I have their orange pads and their softer red pads. So far they both have worked well, especially the orange pads with their Machine Polishes, #3, #2 & #1. Griot's state that their pads are ment to work with their Machine Polishes. So far, they have worked for me.
