Ozone Machine

From what I know on the subject once the interior is full of ozone the machine will not work effectively unless it has a supply of fresh oxygen to convert to ozone. Try this link:

no offense to anyone, but can anyone else verify this to be true?

$900 seams like alot of coin. Also, what woould be a approx. charge for this service?

I think if you were to crack a window to let the air in then it would work well. If you think about it air is about 16% oxygen and the amound of air in a car weighs several pounds at least. An ozone machine produces 2 grams of ozone per hour which is not much at all. I would think that there would still be plenty of oxygen inside the car so that the ozone machine would still work very well.

As an a la carte service you can charge between $40 and 75 per car. If you are a full time detailer and you push it a bit you can probably add it to a smokers car (etc) once a week. You can pay it off real quick.

Although I do not have firs hand experience using an ozone machine, I have followed the topic fairly close. They do work, effectively and often times is the only way to remove certain odors permanently; vomit, smoke, fuels, etc. You are also supposed to run the AC for a few minutes with the ozone running, which I do not understand as the O3 is very hazardous to breathe.

I am currently researching the benefits of a fogger and how it compares to an ozonator. Foggers (and their chemical systems) usually run about 1/2 that of ozonators.

I have a small ozone machine, puts out about 20 mg/h which is 1/100th of what a commercial ozone machine puts out and it still works very well. It can effectively remove smoke odors.

FWIW, I have great success with a variety of odors using simple chemicals, such as vinegar, ammonia and an enzymatic odor neutralizer. Products from Unsmoke (http://www.unsmoke.com/water-coc-ccherry.htm) can be extraordinarily helpful...

I think the ozonaters are VERY expensive.

As a former designer/owner of a large cigar bar, I have a "masters degree" in smoke odor control :)

Hey Jim, are you coming to the expo next month? I am going to be getting together with a bunch of the guys (I think Ketch will be there) and would love it if you could join us for some dinner, drinks and good conversation. Let me know if you are coming.

"expo next month?"

I hate to admit that I'm uninformed...

Where and when? I'll do my best.

Jim

Shame Shame Jimmy! The World Car Care Expo in San Antonio. Go to www.carcarecentral.com for the details. I'll be there, Greg Swett from Classic Appreciation in Detroit will be there (super guy with a fantastic detailing operation), Ketch is going, Bud A. is going plus many, many other detailers from all over the world. The trade show is a good experience as well with all the newest toys for the shop. If you can make it shoot me an e-mail at [email protected] and we'll hook up and conversate!

I've found a modest solution for $20. Sharper Image sells these air fresheners for bathrooms. They're very small units, about 10" in height. I simply toss one of these units in the car on an extension cord and let it sit overnight. It completely removes odors (food) from the interior. i have been surprised at the level of effectiveness. The interior smells MUCH fresher.

Will it remove severe smoking odors? Don't know about that.

Here is an article explaining the difference between an ionizer and ozonator (more expensive type of ionizer): http://www.pagewise.com/ionizer-purifier-explained.htm

Both supposedly help to kill odors but the cheaper ionizer just releases negative ions that attract airborne particles and drop them to a surface (dashboard, carpet, filter). I would be afraid that using a negative ion generator would actually cause the particle to stick to the dash, in vents, in carpet and not be removed. I had a friend who smoked in his house. He used several ionizers that created the negatively charged particles. He lived in the house about a year. When he moved, the walls were white behind the pictures and yellow everywhere else. I have never seen a build up like that before and we came to the conclusion it was the ionizers.

There was also a lawsuit filed by Sharper Image against Consumer Reports or another testing facility, that found their Ionic Breeze did absolutely nothing. They lost the 1st round but I believe they are appealing the decision. http://www.mercurynews.com/mld/merc...s/california/northern_california/10869467.htm

Just my 2 cents.

I will be honest with everyone. This is my first post, but when I saw this thread on Ozone, I had to join and respond. First off...$900 seems like a lot for an ozone machine HOWEVER, it is not that expensive when you consider everything about this machine.

1) It is light weight and portable

2) It pumps Ozone inside the car from the outside. This is good because no matter how much ozone is in the car, you are always pumping more in. More ozone, More odor killing power

3) The amount of Ozone Diamond Lustre's Machine produces is CRAZY! It's awesome! 2,600 MG/hr!! I have seen ozone machines that produce 400 to 700mg/hr.

4) TIME SAVED. with 2,600mg/hr you can de-odorize and SANATIZE in only an hour.

5) Warranty. 3 years on parts, lifetime on ozone producing electrodes

6) No maintenance, no chemicals. You buy the machine, you are set of at least 3 years (because of warranty) and there is nothing else to buy.

7) Programmable timer. Digital LED timer let you control time the machine is running AND ozone concentration level (25%, 50%, 75%, or 100%) If you are doing a car, let it run at 100%. However, Ozone is a sanitizer and can be used in Doctor Offices, nursing homes, hotels, etc. So, in those cases you should adjust the levels.

***I thought $900 was a lot too. But I purchased an Ozone Machine from Diamond Lustre about 4 years ago and have had NO problems. I just bought a new carpet extractor too. I compared Ozone machines heavily and finally decided to go with Diamond Lustre's. I thought I would upgrade in 3 years when the warranty ran out. But I did not because the machine is still running great and it is STILL the best one on the market. I deal with Brad at Diamond Lustre. He runs their website and just revamped the whole thing. I am sure if you tell him you hear about it online at a forum and then went to the website he will give you a slightly better deal...maybe free shipping? Hope this helps!

Ps: this machine takes a smokerâ€â„¢s car and turns it into a non-smokers car permanently in about an hour. I teamed up with a used car dealer and the machine paid for itself in no time!

That sounds like it came straight from their website or some other advertisment.

I just got the one from detail king and so far it seems very nice. I put it in a room down the hall and turned it on with the door closed to test it out. I had to turn it off because I could smell it out here, about 50 ft away. It's very light and I think it's going to work very well. I'm going to be using it saturday to remove a mold/mildew smell and i'll let you know how it goes.

I've used it a couple times so far and it seems to be very powerfull. I'll probably write a review after I've had some more expirence with it.
