Optimum hyper compound VS SSR 3 review

I decided to test Optimum Hyper Compound against SSR 3 via the PC. I regularly use and like SSR 3 but thought it was time for a head to head test. The first two pics are before any polishing. The test vehicle is my white 97 chey pickup. Notice the heavy swirling and deep scratching. I'm going to use SSR 3 to the left of the tape and OHC to the right.

The next few pics are after one pass of each polish, SSR 3 to the left & OHC to the right. I polished for about one and a half minutes with each polish using a LC 6" cutting pad @ 6 speed.

Now for the last pics. These are after two passes with each polish. My findings were that they both cut about the same, but OHC finishes out a little more clear. If you look at the pic with lights on both sides of the tape, the right side light is a little more clear. It's hard to see in the pics but SSR 3 left a little hazing behind where OHC was very clear. Now remember I used a cutting pad, so thats pretty impressive. So I have to give the advantage to OHC.

I also should mention that I could have continued polishing on my first pass with the OHC and got the same results as I got after two passes, but I wanted to keep the polishing times the same for the two compounds.

I was very suprised at how little hazing I got from Hyper Compound on my 626, which has very soft paint. On GM paints, using a yellow LC cutting pad, I got no hazing from Hyper Compound.

Heaviest cut of the SSR's I have used is 2.5 so I can't fairly compare the two.

Looks good but don't you think that was a little overkill for that finish? I would think that the SSR3 and a cutting pad would cut a lot of clear off when that finish really didn't need it? The test was good, haven't used the OHC by PC yet but by rotary it seems a little harder to work with than the polish. I haven't found any vehicle that needed SSR3 b/c SSR2.5 or equivalent did the job. Thanks for the time.

PS- thats a weird color white :LOLOL

I know it's hard to tell by these pics but there were a lot of deep scratches, and some still remain. SSR 2.5 would have done very little other than removing the swirl marks. I have been using SSR polishes extensivly for about a year or so and found I've needed ssr3 on many occasions. As far as the color, thats just my poor camara skills, the white is about the color of snow. One other thing that surprised me was the consistency of OHC. It was much thinner than SSR 3 with very little grittyness, were as SSR 3 is like liquid sand paper.

Based on your test using a PC and Yellow LC Pad, what ranking number would you assign OHC based on the Meguiar's scale of 0-10? What about an SSR3 ranking number?

I would say they are both about the same about an 8. I haven't used Meguiar's products much so I don't really know about those.
