New Paint - Do I need to wait?

Got a new Boxster a couple of days ago.

My plan is probably Carlack (AIO) with Collinite 476.

Should I wait before doing this? I know most factory paint is meant to be cured when the cars leave the factory, but I also know that in Europe the factor to dealer wait on a Porsche isn't very long at all so it's not going to have been sitting in a storage compound somewhere for a few additional weeks.

Really appreciate some quick opinions as I have tomorrow off and if the weather holds that's when I'll be doing it.

TIA,

Paul

You will be fine. Go for it! If it was a repair job and a shop did it I woudl say wait about 90 days though.

I only wish you didn't have to wait on repaints...my car is about to go into the body shop for the third time in 6 months. Long story. It would have been four times, but the most recent damage happened before I could get it into the shop for the hail a few weeks ago. :sadpace:

its old news, but with modern curing processes, that paint could not be more ready for protection. Velobard - I know what your talking about - I just lost a 300$ detail job because the bumper of this BMW that FAST05STANG and I were going to detail had to get fixed and re-cleared at the bodyshop.

I now must survive on hot pockets for a week . . .

velobard- Sheesh, your situation is starting to sound like my S8! Hope your end result turns out well enough that it justifies all the hassles.

This is just an absurd series of events. First was the damage to the back of my car in a March accident, then a tree limb in a storm in July, then minor hail damage 2 days after I got the car back from the shop with fresh paint in August, then a hail of rocks that impacted all over the car in September when the guy in front of me lost control on the highway in the rain and slid into the median, kicking up a bunch of rocks and debris.

I've been finding that some shops don't even want to write an estimate for me on this latest damage because either they don't want to deal with repairs on such a frech paint job and potentially being held liable for the issues from the previous shop, or they simply aren't thrilled about dealing with the other guy's Allstate insurance. I'm afraid before this is over I may have to file it through my own collision policy and have them go after Allstate for compensation. BTW, this most recent one was the day after I was in a car show.

Allstate did write a supposed estimate for the damage and it's outrageously low. Just to prove a point I had an estimate done at Maaco (not that I'd ever let them touch my car) and Allstate is about 40% less than them. The damage is minor, but covers so much of the car that if I get them to pay more I'll have to be careful that they don't try to declare my car a total.

This sort of stuff makes it dang hard to try to be an Autopian. When the car comes back from the shop, I know I'll have hours of buffing to get it back to the level of polish where I had it before. I haven't really been able to wax my car since before the damage in March and now it will be next year before I can put a layer on it.

ill stop complaining abut my trivial problems, that a bummer man. . . hope everything works out.

Thanks fdizzle. I'll keep plugging away at it, being a squeaky wheel to see if I can get Allstate to budge. I'm much more concerned about havingthis done right than having it done soon.

I've taken the opportunity to rant a little about what's going on in a couple of other threads if you want any more details. I've hijacked this one badly enough as it is.

This is just what's been going on in the past 2 months, they don't even go into the problems with my repair when I was hit in the rear in March.
