New car, and still spiderwebs

97FLAIRSIDE

I like blue! :oP
Ok there's a few guys I know on here from FTW well the truck is gone and in its place is a 2005 VW Jetta GLI 1.8T Its a great car, is dam fast, gets good mpg too. But the winter and hand washes done at the local border brother car wash took its toll. There were a few nasty scratches from them either scrubbing to hard or not washing enough of the grime off. But those are gone. Whats did not get out was some spiderweb swirls.

I hand washed, dried with a mf towel, then was going to use a mix of adams revive and scratch out but that didn't do it. I was actually shocked they didn't even come out at all. I had used the megs polishing pad for that. So I busted out the Megs cutting pad with PB's SSR3. I really didn't think i was going to need that on a new car. But I did and it worked pretty dam good to get i'de say 90% of the scratches/swirls out. I then used the adams revive with the polishing pad and then PB'S EX by hand. Car looks amazing but there's still those dam small swirls and spider webs.

What can I do to get these out? I had the PC set at 4.5 is that to fast?

I think what you are seeing is Hazing form the ssr3. I would not recomend going with the ssr3 again on your new paint. Especially with such an agressive pad. Try a light polish to remove the hazing. SSr1? #80.

Greg

Try some SSR1 with a polishing pad, and I agree with Greg, that combo does seem pretty aggressive on new paint.

Least aggressive combo first, it might save you time in the long run.

Good Luck,
"J"

P.S.
looks good, nice shade of blue :bigups

So after using the SSR3, the revive wasn't what I should've gone with? I have to see if i have either, if not i'll add it to my email to poorboy that im sending him now.

I have ssr2, should i have used that then revive? or pb's polish?

Ok i gotchya now. I'll try that this weekend maybe tomorrow. Now heres a question i've had for a while. If I use the ssr2 on the polishing pad, can I still use pb's polish or revive on the same pad? Or should I use the finishing pad for that?

BTW, thanks for the compliment on teh shade of blue. Its what sold me on the car. It shines real nice in the sun.

You shouldnt use the same pad for polishes. you could use the finsih pad but i dont think it would do much. It wouldnt have any abrasivness.

Greg

ok i'll get a new polishing pad to. Wish there were places local that I can just pick it up instead of ordering it.

Spoke to Steve aka PB and he gave me some pointers.

I probably would have used SSR2, SSR1, then Revive all on polishing pads, (3 different ones of course) Then apply your LSP. You can also try a straight shot of the Adams scratch remover.

Im in bergen county. I might check out this paint shop in hackensack. I remember seeing some pads, but not positive. If anything i might get the whole sonus line of pads.

Ok im going to do my car again tomorrow. But this time hopefully the right way.

I've got my ssr2.5 and ssr1 now. So i've got SSR3, 2.5, 2 AND 1, along with scratch out from Adams and Revive. I've got the EX which I absolutely love. I also have pb's polish and a few megs stuff.

What should I use this time to get the absolute best shine I can. Im going to clay it also. Should be fun.

Hey 97........... good to see you at DC! :bigups

Use the Revive or Pro Polish to remove the EX and add another polishing step........ multiple light polishings are good. :D

Then, use the SSR2.5 on the polishing pad with the PC set at 5. If they are still there, apply more polish and make another pass over the area with the PC at 6......... just don't leave it at 6 too long. Then, following that with the SSR1 on a finishing pad with the PC set at 5.

Wow this might turn into a longggggggggggggggggg day.

Steve sent me an email back with a lil step by step to get this thing shining. But the polish step was not there. I guess its a good thing if light polishing is a good thing :-p After the polishing, your steps are the same as steve's steps. So this car might look hella good.

Boss, also been awhilie since last post. Had to give up the truck, surely i do miss it though. HOw is Natty?

Hey 97FLAIRSIDE! Good luck on getting those spiders out! :D

Oh yeah, if you're going to plug FTW, may as well plug f150online.com too! LOL! Did I just do that?

Good to see you bud... g'luck!

RP :D

WHOAAAAA, RP with the new F150 :mohawk NICE!!

I'll get these webs out. Might be a zombie later on, just got off my midnight shift and dont plan on sleeping anytime soon.

Boss/Poorboy, excellent advice. I do have some very minor/faint webbing. But not unless your ontop of it do you really see it. The paint SHINES so much brighter/wetter/cleaner. Its unbelieveabe. I havne't even waxed it yet!!!!

97,

First, you are certainly welcome for the advise.

Secondly, I talked to Natty on his birthday.......... he's doing very well! :bigups

Boss, glad to see the old guy is still movin.......................j/k

Anyway, after detailing I really didn't think I saw a difference in shine, but the next day when the sun was out. O.M.G! I could not believe how much depth was there. My father was like what did you do to the car to get it like that? I was stunned, even more stunned buy how many double takes i got around town and from passer byes. Made my day. But after I washed it yesterday its like the soap i use takes the wax off and makes it not as smooth.
