Maintaining fresh paint??

I've seen it talked about but there's never any definitive answers. I'm having a freshly painted body kit put on my car and I know generally you need to wait about 90 days before you can wax fresh paint. However I heard you can use a glaze on it? Anyone know if this is for sure true or not??

I wouldnt do anything besides polish it lightly. The whole point in waiting for the cure time is for the paint to degas.

A new paint safe glaze is the way to go for 90 -180 days before waxing. The glaze will add a "little" bit of protection. My favorite glaze to use for that purpose is Meg's #5. It is very easy to use which means a lot when you'll be applying it fairly often since it won't last too much longer than through a car wash or a good rain or two.

I'm not sure if some of the newer glazes like DWG are paint safe (allow the paint to cure), but most of the Meg's glazes that I'm aware of are.

Took the words right out of my mouth :xyxthumbs

Agree with both "ELIOT & ACCU"!

As long as it specifically says 'glaze' you should be fine. I would glaze after every wash (light coat), and be diligent in getting rain water and contaminants off the fresh paint quickly as the glaze is a weak barrier, protecting the paint.

I would leave it for the 90 days, and do what it needs then. Your car probably had "unprotected" for more than 90 days before you got it from the factory, so I don't see what the big rush is...besides, there will be much more clearcoat on a repaint so a little bit of marring isn't going to hurt it
