I have been using zaino for a few years now. I have a black mustang. I want to step it up and try a machine buffer. If your not experienced with it, will I ruin my paint? Im afraid to use one. I looked at obviously the porter cable 7424. I see its only a 6" bonnet end. I see others that are 7". Is a machine buffer really alot better than hand buffing? I want my paint to have no swirl marks at all when I look close on the paint. I get a good shine now with my hand with zaino, but I want better. Is there anything better than zaino for dark colored cars, like black? What does everyone do to really make a black car clean. Maybe I should try something new. Im also afraid to buy the PC online, then if I dont like it, hard to return. Do all the stores sell PC buffer, like home depot and sears? What about drying, toro leaf blower good? I use this blue microfiber drying towel thing I got at autozone. It doesnt even pick up the water good. I used to use the absorber.

blownvert: welcome to the Autopia site! Like you, I used to use Zaino on my 03 Mach 1. Then I purchased a Porter Cable at the Meguiar's truck along with their backing plate and foam pads. That was over 2.5 years ago and I haven't regretted the purchase yet.

Basically, you can get the pc locally or do as I did: right from Meguiars. The only difference is Meg's gives a lifetime warranty as opposed to the local store giving 90 days or so. Also, Meguiars can "package" up the backing plate, pads, and products and you could probably save some $$ this way.

For swirl removal (and this site will have many recommendations, all good) I do the following:

1. Wash with NXT wash or Adams wash & clay at the same time.

2. Use Meguiars DACP + 8006 pad for swirl removal (pc speed 5)

3. Use M21 sealant or NXT Tech wax + 9006 for wax application (pc speed 3)

I've also had excellent results with Wolfgang Sealant on dark cars. Plus, you don't have to buy in bulk quantity like you do with M21.

Hope this helps

I bought my PC months ago and have never regreted it at all. Its amazing what I can do with one of those things. For a black car, its almost a required item to keep the black in top shape. Don't be afraid to use it. You would really have to try to harm your paint purposely to have this machine cause damage.

there are bunches of pads/backing plates out there for the PC. Everything from 4" spot pads to large 7 1/2" pads.

For a black/dark colored car, i really like the wetness that a carnauba used in conjunction with a glaze gives. I like VM, RMG, #7 glazes. for the carnauba's, natty's blue, p21s, and souveran get a a nod from me. I like to base these with AIO. Sometimes I even throw a sealant in there also.

to dry my car i do a final rinse with an open hose with a very low water pressure. This will cause the water to sheet off the car. This will take 90% of the water off the car. Then I pull out my gas leaf blower and go over the entire car, making sure i get all the water out of those evil cracks and crevices that like to hold water in them. yes i do get some water spots doing this, but I, like a lot of autopians, QD the car after I wash/dry the car so those waterspots are quickly removed before they start to etch the paint.

I use towels from Pakshak, but i've been eyeing the ones offered by exceldetail as of late. Alot of autopia members use the towels from these two companies also. (in a tony the tiger voice) THHHEEYYY'RRREEE GGREEAATTT!!
