Grease down the side of my car!

While washing my car last night, I discovered that my passenger side is splattered with some kind of greasy substance (from the front wheel all the way to the rear door).

Any suggestions on the products/procedures I should use to remove it? Searching through previous threads produced such diverse things as WD-40, gasoline, Dawn, and P21s Total Auto Wash. Is one better than the other? I'd like to take care of this tonight, so it would be great if you could recommend OTC products.

Thanks...

The grease is in a splatter pattern, like I drove through something and it splashed up on the car. As for the type of grease, I can smudge it with my finger and remove it with a finger nail. I tried washing it off with an old mitt, but all it did was kind of spread it out.

Sorry to hear your about your grease problem. I'd probably try a degreaser or a tar/bug remover first. Grease is similar to tar. If you have Long Haul Bug Degreaser, you could try that first, others have had good experiences with it. Clay may help, but that depend on how "hard" or viscous the grease is.

I've never used WD-40, and I have no idea what effects that would produce. And gasoline, I certainly would not use because I think it would mess up the paint.

Are you sure its not Tire dressing sling? Sounds like it to me...

Lets say it is tire sling from a dressing, use a bug and tar remover on the surface. Spray the product onto the surface after wetting it down with water. Then using a soapy mitt to wash the surface like u normally would. It SHOULD come right off, considering things like tar come off just as easy.

Well, it's been a week since I last washed my car, so I'm pretty sure I would have noticed it before if it was tire dressing sling. That being said, I will give the bug/tar remover a shot. Any recommendations on an OTC brand name?

Like I mentioned before, Long Haul seems to be cheap and effective. Turtle Wax also has a tar remover, product, dunno the name though.
