50/50 wipe down?

Probably a dumb question but, I've seen this posted a few places but never knew what it meant...so what does it mean or purpose? :nixweiss

It is wiping your car with a 50:50 alcohol/water mixture to remove waxes and oils prior to applying a new sealant or wax.

I agree with the above, it will also help you to discover if there's any products using fillers to cover up defects and swirls.

A lot of products will fill in defects, so after you use a product your paint looks good, but then you do a 50/50 wipe and discover the truth.

It also helps before you apply waxes and sealants to clean any oils off the surface so that the sealants have a good clean surface to bond to.

So it has no "fillers" yet the oils in it hide imperfections?? Don't you think that's the same thing?

I think theres a difference. Some products are made with fillers and the purpose of them is to hide imperfections. The majority of polishes contain oils to help with lubrication, but as a result they tend to hide. Thats just my view though.

Because of the oils, I'd keep wiping and wiping to see where I was (black paint) and it just seemed to keep smearing around, I was constantly going back and forth trying to clear the oils. Then I started using detail spray to help take it off ( it worked better but still "hazed") then went to the 50/50 mix. Whamo! clear.
