Down by the river
Hi, joined a bit ago, have a few questions. When i claybar my car, i will use soap and water. should there be a certain ratio here, or just standard doap and water. Also, my parents got me a meguires car care kit thing. (pretty nic i might add) and i comes with scratch X. I have heard it does not work well. Is this true and if so are there better alternatives?

thanks

The key to ScratchX, for me, is repeated use. Don't expect the scratch to disappear after one pass. Also, don't gob it on. Use a little and go over it multiple times. Check your progress often. Different scratches will need varying degrees of work. ScratchX uses diminishing abrasives, so working it longer won't get the scratch out faster than repeated uses worked in less thoroughly. On your final application, you should rub it in longer so that you get a finer finish, devoid of marring.
Experience is the best way to know, and ScratchX is safe enough that you shouldn't mess up anything beyond repair by doing a little experimentation to find the variation that works for you.

For the clay question, your soap should be either at the correct dilution, or leaning towards the soapy side, I use a spray bottle filled with over-soapy car wash solution, like Mother's Trigger Wash watered down, and I rinse that when I'm done. If you will be doing this, use a slick soap like NXT or Poorboy's Super Slick and Suds. Hope this helps.
