1Z Wax Polish Soft and Express Polish

Only tried the WPS. I found it about the same as the consumer version of MP, guess the differences were a bit too subtle for me to discern ;) Maybe a little better concealing ability. Didn't last long (if you accept beading as an indicator) when untopped, maybe three weeks. I last used it as the penultimate step on my wife's A8 (before the #16) and it did seem to add a little something compared to just going from the final polishing (3M PI-III MG, IIRC) straight to the LSP. Worked nicely in the doorjambs/etc. as a cleaner wax. Not quite functionally nonabrasive, but mighty close unless maybe if you used it with a rotary. Just subjectively, it was a product I liked using. Dunno if they still make it, they got rid of a whole *bunch* of their product line, at least in the US.

I have some, used it on a Black Audi. Thought it looked good, but awful close to their MP products

I like 1Z products.

Thanks for the info Accumulator. I had a feeling you used this product before just was not sure. It still is available. I have a sample of MPW and Glanz. I really liked the PP easy on/easy off, left the paint mighty shiny and clean. The smell is a little bit to chemical though. Was just thinking about getting some of the 1Z products in the future. The Express Polish is suppose to be a one-step product which I can use once in awhile. Would like to know how durable it is though. I would top either with a carnauba or Glanz. Thanks again.

So you have tried the Express Polish? What kind of durablility did you get?

Sorry, I used the WaxPolish Soft, which didn't have great longevity.

I really like the Metallic Polish, I like the Glanz and PP. Can't help the Express.

When I last called 1Z North America (to check on which products were being discontinued), the nice and very helpful guy I spoke with seemed sorta hard-pressed to come up with reasons why they have all these similar products. He basically implied that the redundancy was why they were streamlining their product line. When I asked "why use x instead of y I got the feeling he felt a little sheepish about the company lines regarding the trivial differences; it was like he knew he was splitting hairs to the point of almost BSing.

It was this conversation that lead me to *not* buy the Express...I couldn't figure out any reason why I'd want it instead of the MP or the WPS. I kinda bought the WPS just because I thought they were gonna quit handling it and it sounded like a "better" (yeah, I know that's utterly vague :o ) version of the MP. I wouldn't expect much durability from any of these.

IIRC, the Express has fewer abrasives than the WPS and maybe even the MP (as in, what abrasives ;) ) and has more "natural" waxes as opposed to synthetic ones. I find the WPS and MP to be functionally nonabrasive if used gently (which you can do as there's no need to break them down) anyhow and I think the abrasive components do more to make the products user-friendly than they do to make them able to do correction. Also, I like whatever blend of waxes they put in the MP and WPS and wasn't interested in using what sounded like an inferior product. But again, this is just how I remember a conversation that wasn't exactly all that rich in objective details.

John, I've used the WPS, but I don't think it's intended as an LSP (regardless of stmts made by the mfr). I think you need to use a product like Glanz Wax afterwards. There is minimal longevity with just the WPS on its own.

I have both the WPS and the Metallic Polish. I prefer the WPS...it has a bit more oooomph, if I may. I hate to say it but these are both products that I'd categorize as EXCELLENT.

Thanks for the info guys. I guess I will just get the WPS and MPW and see how they both do for me. Like I said I will top these with either a carnauba or Glanz. Well actually I will use my sample of MPW before I buy either, but with my experience with PP I'm sure I will love both products and some other's they have.

Yeah, 1Z make SUPERB products. Its a shame they've fallen out of favour on Autopia...they use to be all the rage a year or so ago.

Alfisti- Yeah, I figure that the way the retrenched their distribution left a bad taste in many mouths. And I was kinda ticked off that they discontinued my beloved Pro version of MP.

Another strike against 1Z: I did find that I just couldn't get the results I wanted with Ultra/Paint Polishes on the black rent-a-Suburban I did last year :nixweiss. 3M and Meg's stuff worked like a charm; no idea why I couldn't get things to work out with the 1Z. The finish just came out gray/brown and milky looking under certain lighting, no such problems when I switched to the old 3M PI-III stuff. With all the GM paint being worked around here, things like that might be a factor too. I can see people sticking with products that work on everything, all the time. And then there's the whole "leaving wax behind" thing, which *can* sometimes be a legitimate concern.

Still, I'm with you. 1Z stuff is good and it's a shame it seems to be ignored these days. When a new member posted (just the other day) about his Benz 300SL showcar (repainted in Glasurit b/c) I thought that the MP would be just *perfect* to bring out the metallic. I fear it sounded like some off-the-wall advice :o since nobody's ever heard of 1Z the way they've heard of Meguiar's.

What you say above is very true.

Additionaly, I find the Ultra and Paint Polish to contain quite soft abrasives (even the Ultra - very gritty but breaks down very quickly and finely). They work well in most cases, but on some paints - especially hard paint - they're not as effective. But when they work, boy do they leave a great result. And minimal dusting! :)

1Z leather cleaner is still #1 in my book.

1Z cockpit premium is the best I've tried for interior cleaning.

and

1Z Tieplfelfnedkrer is the BEST tire dressing/dash protectant I have ever used.

when it comes to frequent detaling:

1Z for the inside

Finish Kare for the outside.

Was thinking of getting a few other products from them, especially the cockpit premium and the vinyl/rubber protectant.

Completely off topic: :grinno:

1Z shampoos are fantastic!

The Cockpit Premium and Tiefenpfleger (sp??) are personal favorites and wonderful for weekly interior cleaning.

Is the 1Z product line hard to find nowadays?? Seems like a few of our favorite retailers have dropped them

Pakshak carries them and a few other's, visit there website. 1Z will also sell to you via there website.

petp- Similar but different ;) The WPS has more correction ability and leaves actual wax behind. Leaves a much better shine and slickness too, at least IMO and hides stuff better too.

Speaking purely subjectively, I just wasn't impressed with the P21S GEPC but the WPS was something that made me say "hey, this is nice".

Thought of this today when doing a quickie detail on my mechanic's 232K BMW 740. Pretty trashed car to say the least, but I wanted to do *something* for him as he takes good care of me. Used the Ultra by Cyclo and topped with Collinite. Sure didn't turn out great by Autopian standards (and a  to that concept anyhow ;) ) but he's gonna be pleasantly surprised when he gets it back. Quickest and easiest thing I could think of to make for some kind of improvement.
