1st time detaling white Subie

Hi to everyone!



I have never detailed a car but I would like to learn. I've been reading and watching videos from the forum. I have an 05 white subaru wrx, and It has never been detailed before.



I would like to learn what products I need, and what will be the best procedure to follow for a newbe like me.



I'm not looking for anything to fancy but I do would like my car to look like an 05 car if posible.



PS= since the winter it's coming I would like something to protect the paint from the environment since subaru's paint sucks.:rolleyes:

You're in luck. I just detailed my 05 Aspen White STi yesterday. Will post pics soon.



I am a fan of Collinite 845 but decided to dry Duragloss this time around. Can't comment on it just yet as far as durability and beading but it has defnintely made the paint look wetter than the Collinite did.

When you say your 05 Suburu has never been detailed, does that mean it has not even been washed? Or it has been washed, but never polished or waxed?



You will need to start with a good washing and clay bar treatment. If it's really dirty you should consider a good pre-soak with something strong like P-21S Total Auto Wash or diluted Purple Power. Then wash the car with Dawn or a good car wash soap (only use Dawn to wash if you plan on polishing/waxing, because it will remove wax).



Detailing clay is a must before you polish.



Your car undoubtedly has swirls and scratches. A 2-step polish will improve the look of your paint like nothing else. This is the hardest step in detailing, and experience counts. Enlisting the help of a pro can do wonders in this department. If you do it yourself don't expect miraculous results your first time. You also need the right tools and polishes, and every car's paint responds differently to polishes. I somewhat experienced at polishing, yet earlier this summer I hired one of our Autopian brethren to help me polish one of my cars. He achieved great results and imparted some of his detailing savvy to me at the same time.



After polishing you need a good sealant or wax (or both) to protect your shiny paint. I have two white vehicles myself, and I've found the combination of Klasse All In One sealant topped with Collinite 845 Insulator Wax to give long lasting protection and a great look. Opinions vary, and nobody here has a monopoly on good ideas. Some of the favorites here are Optimum Poli Seal, Duragloss TPP, Zaino Z-5, P-21S carnauba wax, Carnauba Moose Wax, Meguiar's #21, and Chemical Guys JetSeal 109. The choices are a little overwhelming.

My car has been washed but never polished or waxed... my car it's dirty to the point it look kind of yellow even after I wash it.
