1964 Jaguar E-Type 4.2 (Dark Red)

i've been fortunate enough to find an owner with a dozen classic vehicles that he wants detailed...including access to his garage to do the work. this project pretty much will have me booked for the rest of the season, since i'm only a weekend detailer. :)

this is the first vehicle i've done from his collection...a 1969 Jaguar E-Type 4.2. the car was repainted in 1988 and has a clear coat (a very HARD cc...sigh...)

edited with correct vehicle year...it's a 1969

process:

--ONR wash

--clay

--tried to polish with a PC...just couldn't get better than 70%...switched to my hitachi

--meg's 6" pads on hitachi...OHC and then FPII

--PC and 4" pads on hard to reach areas

--exhaust, side mirror, and a few other metal pieces polished with English Custom Metal Polishes

--303 on all trim

--wheels got P21s wheel cleaner and ONR

--wheel wells...APC, ONR, then Armor All

--glass...ONR to clean...RainX to protect

--paint topped with #7, then collinite 845, then DP Max Wax

on to the pics:

 I love those cars!

BTW, you can put at least 10-15 pics per post, the old 6 image max went out with the old board.

very nice collection, i could see a morgan and an austin healy in the background as well as another jag...drool!!

good eye, richy. the owner has two 64 jags (this one and a convertible).

yes, i'm doing the metal polishing by hand. i used the Metal Restorer first...then the Showman's Finish Ultra to finish it off. the kit i bought has five levels of polish...but i haven't tried them all out yet. there is plenty more that can be done on the car, but i can't spend forever on it. i'll probably ask the owner if he wants more extensive work done on the trim and metal, etc. as a separate project.

pending details are:

01 morgan plus 8 roadster

64 jag convertible (bright red)

52 olds 98

68 austin healy mkII 3000

40 chevy special deluxe

21 ford model t <---i won't be touching that without a lot of research first! :nervous2:

...and a bunch more...but i'm going to do the ones i like first. hehehe :)

I don't think that is a 1964 XKE. It has the uncovered head lights (should be covered), it has the big taillights(should be small and located above the rear bumpers) ,the exhausts should be double and in the center, it has the rocker switches (should be toggle switches) and it looks like a 2+2 which were not made in 1964.. It could be a 1974.

lou k- not sure about that...just going by what the owner told me. i just checked the list he gave me and it says "1964 2+2 e-type jag" and the other is a "1964 e-type roadster". i'll search and see what i can find.

I owned a 1967 XKE coupe, not a 2+2, so I am very familiar with the changes from 1967 to the models after that. I did some further research and the 2+2 was first produced in 1966.

interesting...thanks much for the info. perhaps it's a typo on the list the owner gave me...or maybe he is confused. hehe. or...it's a conspiracy!:lol

i'll update with what i find after talking with him. i think the car manuals were all there too, so i can look at that as well.
